‘Diasporan Truth’ we are joined by guest co-host Lani Masuku, founder of PhroPhro.com. PhroPhro.com is a site dedicated to assisting women in growing, maintaining and styling healthy hair. Lani also has a keen interest in advocacy particularly regarding gender equality, eradicating poverty and education.

A recent article in the Zambia Daily Mail by Deputy Editor, Charles Chisala, lambasting the growth of girl-child education programs that are supposedly discriminating against male children in Zambia has inspired us to have a discussion about the importance of education for all.

We will attempt to answer the following questions:

  • Why is education important for all children?
  • Why is there a particular focus on the girl-child?
  • Discussion of programs such as Plan International’s “Because I am a Girl” and it’s goals & effictiveness
  • Can this focus have a negative impact i.e discriminate against the boy-child?
  • Dissecting parts of Mr. Chisala’s article; where if at all does he raise valid points?

We would love to hear your opinions and feedback before the show. We suggest you take time out to read Mr Charles Chisala’s article “Lamentations of neglected boy-child’s parent.”
