CJ...Did I mention the VA mortgages are available for mobile homes, but the lenders REFUSE to make the loan? We went through it all trying to get a VA loan for our $115,000 manufactured home...nope...no takers would touch us. What a shame. We had to put 5% down, double up on the monthly notes and get a fixed rate for 20 years. Lenders should be ashamed of themselves. Troops are returning home from the war and can't afford a $100 per square foot stick built home...so they opt for a double wide (or in our case a triple wide) manufactured home. They're not "trailers" any more. Janis

    For our 1-year anniversary show, we're privileged to have a great lineup to celebrate. Our first guest will be Maj Eric Egland. He is a former Republican candidate in 2008 congressional run. Eric Egland is a counter-terrorism consultant to the Department of Defense and is an active military reservist. His experience in national security includes working to defeat terrorism, insurgency and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in operational, analytical, and advisory roles. He was in Saudi Arabia on September 11th, 2001 and has since served in places like Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. His experiences in the Middle East are featured in a Fox News documentary on Iran. He is the founder of Troops Need You, a non-profit organization that continues the American tradition of mobilizing citizens to directly support the troops in Iraq, bypassing the bureaucracies in Washington and Baghdad. The project is part of a plan for victory in Iraq detailed in a book authored by Major Egland, titled The Troops Need You, America: Six Ways to Help Them Win.(www.troopsneedyou.com) We are also happy to be talking to Country music star Mark Wills. We will talk about his new album, "2nd Time Around" and his support of USA Cares.     You Served Radio has another great show lined up. We have two guests scheduled to come on, the first being Taryn Davis, Founder/President, The American Widow Project. The American Widow Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to the new generation of those who have lost the heroes of yesterday, today and tomorrow, with an emphasis on healing through sharing stories, tears and laughter Military Widow to Military Widow. The then 21-year-old Private First Class deployed to eastern Afghanistan in 2008. He was on his first patrol manning a Mark-19 grenade launcher in a Humvee’s armored turret of a gun truck, when his convoy was ambushed. Because of this Soldier’s actions, not one American life was lost; 17 men went in, 17 came out. You are invited to join now-Spec. Hutchinson as he discusses the act of the commitment, selfless service, and personal courage that earned the Silver Star medal for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States.

    Episode #46- Marine LtCol Mitch "Taco" Bell, Christian Davenport

    On tonight's show we have arranged another awesome lineup. First up is LtCol Mitchell “Taco” Bell. Taco is a Marine reservist and the OIC of the South Central Texas Marine 4 Life program. We’ll talk with Taco about Marine 4 Life and also his experience while deployed to Afghanistan in 2008. He is also the author of the milblog Sandgram at http://www.thesandgram.com. Our second guest is Christian Davenport is a reporter on the Metropolitan staff of The Washington Post, covering regional military affairs. He was on a team of reporters that was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize in National reporting for coverage of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. In 2007, he was awarded an Alicia Patterson Fellowship in journalism and spent a month embedded with the Virginia Army National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment in Iraq. He then spent a year chronicling the lives of five of the unit’s soldiers returning to civilian life after the war. The stories of these five soldiers are featured in his book, As You Were: To War and Back with the Black Hawk Battalion of the Virginia National Guard, released June 1, 2009. Mrs. Lyndy Kyzer from the Army's PAO office will also be coming on the show to talk about how the Army is leading all the services in engaging bloggers, embracing new media, etc.
