Test 5 - What Happens When You Try To Wing It?

I love doing tests.  They strengthen the soul, they speak true clarity, they help us find our center.

My next test was to see what type of blogtalkradio™ host I was.  Doing a radio show is not something I would have done on my own.  It was something I did in support of a greater effort.  Now that I've done it though, it's under my belt like many other experiences in my life.  What I choose to do with that experience will be revealed in the future at some point.  Every thing that I have been brought to learn has usually been so that I may pass along my experiences to others.

Today I decided to throw myself in the pool without ANY floaties! :D  I scheduled a show very last minute on a Saturday (a day when most people are out and about) to see if I sank or swim.  It was an important test for me as it verified a few things I needed clarity on regarding the energy of a show.  I scheduled the show for a full 90 minutes, which would allow me to catch the next BTR show I wanted to listen to.  I did it with only 20 minutes to spare.  An odd fact I found out was if you call in too early, you get a strange cycling message.  It asks you to press "2" to go directly to your show, but when you do it keeps asking you the same question again and again and again.  I hung up and decided to wait until a time closer to the show and worked on my playlist.

I had no idea what the show would be about.  I knew music would be involved.  Usually I feature inspiring quotes.  As a matter of fact, I had a list of gratitude quotes I was saving for another show which I hadn't worked out the music to match yet.  I didn't want to take the easy route though.  I decided to wing it with the music and found myself uploading new songs as the 5 second ticker ran off.  To my amazement, after a refresh of the switchboard, they were ready to go!

I started out with dance music and just verbalized my feelings for the songs.  It worked really well, that freedom to not think at all.  My sleep apnea has a way of frying off brain cells, so thinking on the fly successfully is a big deal to me.  As I moved into different music, I decided to tell some jokes.  Upon listening to the show later, I realized they didn't turn out as horribly as I thought (I'm no comedian).  Towards the end of the 90 minutes, I did the self-indulgent thing and played my favorite four songs that I start the day with every day; the songs I love to sing which bring love and light into the very first minutes of my day.

I was a bit surprised when they finished playing.  The hour went so fast.  I ended the show with Imagine from John Lennon.  The experience answered many questions for me; not just regarding what I love, but the energy of the moment.

I loved the show, but I deleted it afterwards.  It wasn't because it was a test, but because I like having a theme running through my shows.  That is the point of having a show - to edify others.  My little 90 minutes test really only edified me. :D

When life hands you questions, here's a great way to get clear.  Do something that pushes your own personal boundaries.  There is an amazing clarity that comes from all four corners of the world and the ethers!

Test 4 - How Many People CAN Talk At Once?

So I'm sitting here waiting for a file to pop up for the archives so I can download it and delete it.  It's a silly little 30 minute thing we did on a moment's notice after hearing LanderLove play her guitar on her radio show.  It sounded really good.  So the next question was, can one person play a guitar in Washington State while another person sings in Virginia Beach and still be in synch?

I suppose it would have helped if the person in Virginia Beach had given the person in Washington State some time to listen to the music.  Heh.  It was really just a test to hear what happens.

What happened was the cheesy little phone I call in to blogtalkradio™ with couldn't handle the vocal part, so there were a lot of blank spaces.  I could hear the phone blanking out, but wasn't sure what that meant.  I probably should have kept it on speaker and left it on the desk.

Now that I've had a chance to listen to the file, it's clear that the two things can't be heard at once.  The vocals did come through the phone, but the louder of the two inputs is the one that overrode the other.  So, doesn't look like jammin over blogtalkradio™ is going to work.  Well, that's what the test was for.  :D
