    Date / Time:

    Test 3

Test 2 didn't go off as well as I had planned.  That was one show that got trashed pretty quickly after I listened to it.

Test 3 went much better, but I wrote a script for the entire show...word for word.  A MUCH easier, better experience.  I MUST remember to drink water between songs because I have found (not ever having done this type of thing before) that it's very hard to pronounce long words when your mouth is dry.  I slurred the Black-Eyed Peas name pretty good.  During the break, it dawned on my that it was becoming so much harder to talk because I was dehydrated.  Yikes.

I found another kink to iron out with the show.  I have these big notebooks I got at OfficeMax dirt cheap and I write the shows by hand in there.  During Test 3 two of the pages stuck together and all of the sudden I thought I was 20 minutes short of show.  It didn't matter that much because I have more than enough music to cover up any timing mistakes, but I calculated the show length so carefully.  I didn't figure out that the two pages were stuck until very late, but was able to get all the content on the hidden page into the show.  It wasn't in the order I would have preferred, but at least the music got played.

Putting on a radio show is not natural for me.  It's probably more due to my disability that I can't fly without a script...it's a patting head and rubbing tummy at same time thing.  I am in awe of Rysa every time I get through a show.  I don't know how I'd ever be able to wing a 2-hour show.

I seriously need a good headset for my home phone.  I haven't listened to the archive of Test 3 yet so I don't know how the volume of the phone is doing (I actually HELD the headset the whole time), so hopefully the cell phone headset replacement Verizon is sending me will be better than it was with my old cell phone headset.  People were telling me they couldn't even hear me.  My dream situation would be to have a professional wall jack (box that hooks directly into the wall with a mic and volume control) and a good headset.  I tried to convert the headset for my computer with an adapter to fit in my home phone handset, but the feedback was horrible.

Well, the real reason for writing these blogs was so I could tell how they fit around the archived shows.  When I'm done with this one, I'll know everything.  I feel content that I was able to get through a show without all the nervousness.  I didn't even have to EFT before the show.  I'm thrilled!

Test 3 - Quotes and Music for your morning enjoyment.

  • Date / Time:

    Test 1

Test 1 went off without a whole lot of problems.  Yahoo!  Oh wait, maybe I shouldn't say that in the blogtalkradio™ blog area.  I'd put an evil grin in my blog, but apparently even though there are a million options in the blog editor, emoticons aren't one of them!

Will I be keeping a blog for my radio show?  I'm thinking no, but you can never tell.  It's all about how much time things take and how quickly the pace of life moves.  I am in COMPLETE awe of Gary Moore who did this for a living!  My first show was only 30 minutes long.  It was an incredibly nerve-wracking 30 minutes.  I never experienced such a wonderful feeling of relief as I did when the operator on the blogtalk line counted down the last minutes.  The song played after the show stopped on blogtalk and I realized that saying goodbye to the audience during a song does not turn out the way you'd think.  Especially when your phone is a low volume as mine is.  My phones are around 10 years old (I think).  I can't believe vtech technology went back that many years ago, but I'm working with a phone thats only 2.4 GHz compared to today's 6.0 digital technology.

The disparity between the volume of my phone and the volume of the MP3s that are playing is quite large.  I hear people who are currently doing shows talk about having their music up in the 100s.  I'm having to turn mine down to 25%.  I played Belinda Carlisle near the end of my first show and almost deafened myself when listening to the playback.  YIKES!  I'm trying to fix the volume on the songs (you can set the percentage in your "UPLOADS" area) to keep from disturbing the audience to the point they have to shove cotton in their ears to keep their sanity.

There's still a lot of work to do, but I'm going to force radio shows on myself every day for the rest of the week in hopes that the whole nervous freaking-out thing goes away.  Wish me luck!
