Hi,Jackie.I've just finished listening to "No More Secrets -...)and it really made me think about how easy it is to feel like you're the only one suffering-be it from depression,anxiety,etc.,etc.-ESPECIALLY when in the throes of these mind states. It's so good to be reminded that everyone suffers;it's so human to suffer. Also, hearing everyone's histories, and the devastating events that have happened to all of you:devastating enough to,pretty understandably, feel at times that the only way out of what must have been sheer hell, was to end your lives, but there you all were:talking, even laughing. What a lesson for anyone depressed, because it can be nearly impossible to imagine one can ever laugh again. That there really can be light at the end of the tunnel and you truly never know what's right around the corner.I love that John & Patricia are now so passionate about spreading the word to others,I think that's wonderful.I love the "tip" idea, too.Juat a list of small things people can do to lift their moods, even if it's just temporarily. That's a book in and of itself,if you ask me.Great interview.P.S.I hope this doesn't sound callous or anything, but I dyin' to know which Prince it was you were listening to ,Jackie!I as this as not only a Prince lover, but as a music lover myself:it's given me pleasure when nothing else was able to! Have a great day-Dess

Wanted to share an email I got today from Germany: Fantastic!!!! My name ist Mimi and I live in Germany. I just listened to your show with Dr. Gordon and it was absolutely FABOLOUS!!! I am 28 years old and I suffered from depression for more than 8 years, also taking all this medication, doing theray, you name it, I did it! 6 month ago I was on 3 different kinds of medication when I couldn´t get out of bed for a week, feeling so sick and depressed. I decided I will never swallow this pills again and just stopped taking them! Long story short. I finally discoverd a doctor who exactly told me the same things to do which you and Dr. Gordon were talking about. I started eating a vegan diet, exercising, etc... But also my new and fantastic psychiatrist studied acupuncture in China and has a method espcially for healing depression and negative thinking! After two appointments of acupuncture and 4 weeks of eating an vegan diet I started feeling true happyness again after 8 years and I have been fine since! I can´t believe that our Healthsystem not only in America, also here in Germany and prob. also in the rest of the world tells us that we NEED medication, when people have th epossibilities to try other things first! Doctors are not listening, they just prescribe. I can´t even tell how many times I was thining that nothing and nobody can help and I would just have to live the depression. More people need to know that they can make a decission to try other natural ways to heal. Every human being is different and so everybody needs to find their own individual way. Thanks for this wonderful show, which showed me again that I am on the right track with my new lifestyle and also sharing this with other people. A couple weeks ago I made a youtube video exactly about this topic. Maybe you want to check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgcylpUNnFQ All my best wishes Mimi

I am who I am. Many people make excuses for being who they are. You may be like me and talk too much, or you do something else that you feel makes you unloveable. My advice...be who you are always. I am a talk show host BECAUSE I LIKE TO TALK! Makes sense right. So I make no excuses for myself. I love me just the way I am.

Received a negative comment and yes i did delete it...not because i can't take criticism but because i dislike mean spirited, vicious, nasty people. If u dislike my show, there r about 25,000 others here on blogtalk...it's all about choice so negative nasty comment person...tune out and maybe u should run ur own show and book your own guests?? Good luck with that by the way

MizDean

I am crying as I listen to this show. I lost my mother to a neglectful hospital atmosphere. As a single, only child, I had no back up or relief. My surviving family members were all her older siblings and in bad shape themselves. I used to sit with her for up to 12 hours a day. Their was no hospital support. My heart sank when I had to leave, because I never knew if I'd see her alive again. Finally, she took ill in the night and I came running. She died the next day due to an heparin overdose. Sometimes, I blame myself

jsforeman

jsforeman

I disagree completely. 10-10-10 is about making decisions no matter how much money you make. Mymother-in-law is in her 70's and cleans hotel rooms and she uses 10-10-10. I also make no $ now and still use 10-10-10

Very informative and enlightening show except I do not think that Ms. Welch's theory would work if you are making minimum wage and living on the edge. That worker is at the mercy of too many forces not in their control. I know because I come from a long line of folks who worked hard for little money and just could not pick up and leave a job, no matter how draining it was.

    Rock Musician Johnny Lima LIVE!!

Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews the talented (and incredibly funny) rocker Johnny Lima. Whoever said “Rock is Dead!” obviously forgot to mention its demise to Johnny Lima. After hearing his new CD Livin’ Out Loud, it’s clear that Lima sure as hell didn’t get the message. Johnny Lima is back with a new album called Livin' Out Loud, released May 4, 2009. The album showcases a more guitar-oriented approach than Lima's previous releases, or as one critic put it, “12 stunning new songs! His new stuff sounds more dirty, catchier and rougher than everything else before.” Lima spent the last three years lending his production skills to artists like Dirty Penny, Miss Crazy, Diamond Lane and Freakshow (featuring Frankie Banali, Tony Franklin, Jeff LeBar and Markus Allen Christopher), but now he's doing what he does best -- and that's making melodic Rock 'N Roll like no one else. Born to Portuguese immigrants in a small town in central California, Lima got his first taste of Rock ‘N Roll at the tender age of four, when his parents let him stay up late one night to catch KISS on a TV show. Little did they know that it was that one band on that one TV show, that would convince their child that all he was meant to do in his life was to Rock ‘N Roll All Night. After many years of “playing” to his favorite KISS records with a tennis racket, his parents finally gave in and bought him his first guitar, eight years later at age 12. “I was too impatient to ‘learn’ the guitar the proper way. I wanted to get down to writing songs the minute I picked up the guitar for the first time” said Lima. Although the music business wasn’t kind to him in his own backyard, across the Atlantic, Lima's style of music was still respected and garnered the attention of many independent labels in Europe, those hell bent on keeping melodic rock alive. Remember... if it rocks, and if it’s catchy as hell, then it must be Johnny Lima.

Positive Directions: Shifting Polarities to Escape Stress and Increase Happiness

Join Jacqueline Foreman when she speaks with the author of Positive Directions: Shifting Polarities to Escape Stress and Increase Happiness, John Ryder. How do you refocus on the positive under any circumstance? Positive Directions is about the specific changes you can easily make that will result in the biggest differences in your life. Dr. Ryder explains how to develop nine psychological skills that empower the individual to conquer problems such as stress, fears, frustrations, misery, lack of energy, sabotaging patterns, and bad decisions. The book simplifies our complex nature and identifies the polar opposites which either swing in the negative (bad) or positive (good) direction. When you are going the wrong way, turn in the opposite - positive direction. This system gives you the knowledge and skills to know how to reverse any negative direction in your life and propel you towards greater success and fulfillment - the positive direction! This book contains a great deal of useful information, fascinating ideas, and fun exercises with helpful tables, graphs, and instructions that can improve your life and relationships.

Cruel Death With True Crime Writer M. William Phelps

Join Jacqueline Foreman as she welcomes best-selling New York Times True Crime writer M. Williams Phelps to the show to disucss his newest book Cruel Death. Erika Sifrit was once a high school basketball star and an honours student. Then she married Navy SEAL Benjamin Sifrit. Some say Erika was abused by 'B.J.' Some say she pulled his strings. But by the time they reached Ocean City, MD, Erika was packing a gun in her Coach bag and was caught the grips of a new American death ride. In the sun-kissed, sea-swept resort town, a loving couple crossed paths with Erika and B.J. Sifrit. Shortly thereafter, Erika was wearing a bloody wedding ring on her necklace, while what remained of two dismembered holiday makers was buried in a Delaware landfill, and a modern-day "Bonnie and Clyde" story was being written - a lurid tale of madness, money, sex and murder. Investigative journalist M. William Phelps is the author of I’ll Be Watching You, If Looks Could Kill, Because You Loved Me, Murder in the Heartland, Perfect Poison, Lethal Guardian, Every Move You Make, and Sleep in Heavenly Peace. He has appeared on dozens of national radio and television programs, including Good Morning America, Court TV, The Discovery Channel, Geraldo at Large, and Montel Williams, and has consulted for the Showtime cable television series Dexter. He lives in a small Connecticut farming community with his wife and children.

The We Generation: Raising Socially Responsible Kids

Join Jacqueline Foreman and author Dr. Michael Ungar of the brand new book The We Generation: Raising Socially Responsible Kids. Wouldn’t it be nice if your child committed herself to doing a simple act of kindness every day? As today’s culture seems to grow more self-centered and obsessed with “me,” Dr. Michael Ungar refreshingly points the way to raising “we” thinkers. Perhaps most inspiring about Ungar’s findings: today’s kids are eager to help out and be noticed. What they need, though, is compassion, encouragement, and attentiveness to their most important connections—those made at home. By recounting the inspiring stories of his work with families, Ungar reveals how the emotional bond kids crave and the support adults provide can help our children realize their full potential. Filled with practical tips, this guide will inspire every child and adult to be their best, most giving self.

Perseverance: True Voices of Cancer Survivors

Join Jacqueline Foreman when she interviews author Carolyn Rubenstein author of the new book Perseverance: True Voices of Cancer Survivors. Can you imagine being in high school or college and suddenly learning you have cancer? You thought you had a lifetime ahead of you and the whole world at your feet, but suddenly you're told... maybe not. How would you cope? That's the question the twenty young people in this book had to answer when they were diagnosed with childhood cancer. Perseverance tells of their trials and tribulations, of their triumphs, and of the unique challenges that day-to-day college life brings them. Perseverance also provides an intimate look at the lives and journeys of these young people and how their courage and strength have affected the lives of others. These honest, first-person accounts lend amazing depth to the inspiring stories of these young men and women. Inside, you'll meet Zac York, who tells of climbing Mount Whitney—on crutches—after battling brain cancer. You’ll meet Alex Oden, who—just days after brain surgery—gave his 8th grade peers a graduation speech called “A Day Well Spent,” in which he challenged them to make a difference in just one day. You’ll meet Kristen Jones, who, while battling leukemia, was able to pass the MCAT and pursue her dream of becoming a pediatric oncologist. Twenty unique and fascinating stories, with one common theme: perseverance. The stories of these heroes demonstrate how anyone can learn to live with energy and passion, regardless of the obstacles to be faced, and will remind us all that now is everything.
