Hi,Jackie.I've just finished listening to "No More Secrets -...)and it really made me think about how easy it is to feel like you're the only one suffering-be it from depression,anxiety,etc.,etc.-ESPECIALLY when in the throes of these mind states. It's so good to be reminded that everyone suffers;it's so human to suffer. Also, hearing everyone's histories, and the devastating events that have happened to all of you:devastating enough to,pretty understandably, feel at times that the only way out of what must have been sheer hell, was to end your lives, but there you all were:talking, even laughing. What a lesson for anyone depressed, because it can be nearly impossible to imagine one can ever laugh again. That there really can be light at the end of the tunnel and you truly never know what's right around the corner.I love that John & Patricia are now so passionate about spreading the word to others,I think that's wonderful.I love the "tip" idea, too.Juat a list of small things people can do to lift their moods, even if it's just temporarily. That's a book in and of itself,if you ask me.Great interview.P.S.I hope this doesn't sound callous or anything, but I dyin' to know which Prince it was you were listening to ,Jackie!I as this as not only a Prince lover, but as a music lover myself:it's given me pleasure when nothing else was able to! Have a great day-Dess

Wanted to share an email I got today from Germany: Fantastic!!!! My name ist Mimi and I live in Germany. I just listened to your show with Dr. Gordon and it was absolutely FABOLOUS!!! I am 28 years old and I suffered from depression for more than 8 years, also taking all this medication, doing theray, you name it, I did it! 6 month ago I was on 3 different kinds of medication when I couldn´t get out of bed for a week, feeling so sick and depressed. I decided I will never swallow this pills again and just stopped taking them! Long story short. I finally discoverd a doctor who exactly told me the same things to do which you and Dr. Gordon were talking about. I started eating a vegan diet, exercising, etc... But also my new and fantastic psychiatrist studied acupuncture in China and has a method espcially for healing depression and negative thinking! After two appointments of acupuncture and 4 weeks of eating an vegan diet I started feeling true happyness again after 8 years and I have been fine since! I can´t believe that our Healthsystem not only in America, also here in Germany and prob. also in the rest of the world tells us that we NEED medication, when people have th epossibilities to try other things first! Doctors are not listening, they just prescribe. I can´t even tell how many times I was thining that nothing and nobody can help and I would just have to live the depression. More people need to know that they can make a decission to try other natural ways to heal. Every human being is different and so everybody needs to find their own individual way. Thanks for this wonderful show, which showed me again that I am on the right track with my new lifestyle and also sharing this with other people. A couple weeks ago I made a youtube video exactly about this topic. Maybe you want to check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgcylpUNnFQ All my best wishes Mimi

I am who I am. Many people make excuses for being who they are. You may be like me and talk too much, or you do something else that you feel makes you unloveable. My advice...be who you are always. I am a talk show host BECAUSE I LIKE TO TALK! Makes sense right. So I make no excuses for myself. I love me just the way I am.

MizDean

I am crying as I listen to this show. I lost my mother to a neglectful hospital atmosphere. As a single, only child, I had no back up or relief. My surviving family members were all her older siblings and in bad shape themselves. I used to sit with her for up to 12 hours a day. Their was no hospital support. My heart sank when I had to leave, because I never knew if I'd see her alive again. Finally, she took ill in the night and I came running. She died the next day due to an heparin overdose. Sometimes, I blame myself

jsforeman

jsforeman

I disagree completely. 10-10-10 is about making decisions no matter how much money you make. Mymother-in-law is in her 70's and cleans hotel rooms and she uses 10-10-10. I also make no $ now and still use 10-10-10

Very informative and enlightening show except I do not think that Ms. Welch's theory would work if you are making minimum wage and living on the edge. That worker is at the mercy of too many forces not in their control. I know because I come from a long line of folks who worked hard for little money and just could not pick up and leave a job, no matter how draining it was.

Legends of Music: Switch & DeBarge

Switch was an R&B/funk band that found fame recording for the Gordy label in the late 1970s releasing hit songs such as "There'll Never Be", "I Call Your Name" and "The Best Beat in Town" and influenced bands such as DeBarge, which featured members Bobby and Tommy's siblings. Featuring brothers Bobby and Tommy DeBarge and Greg Williams, all of whom hailed from Grand Rapids, Michigan along with Akron, Ohio natives Phillip Ingram (brother of James Ingram), Eddie Fluellen and Jody Sims. The group got the attention of Jermaine Jackson, former member of The Jackson 5, who heard their demo tape and within days the group was promply signed to the Motown Records subsidiary label, Gordy. There, they recorded and released their self titled debut album in 1978. The album featured their first Top 10 R&B hit single entitled "There'll Never Be". Depending on whom was singing lead on the songs, their songs were written by Williams, Ingram and Bobby DeBarge and often in collaboration with Jermaine Jackson, who continued to sponsor the band throughout their five years on the label. Though they never did manage to cross over into the pop singles chart, they were a consistent presence on the R&B charts through the late 1970s with albums such as Switch II from 1979 (their second release), This Is My Dream and Reaching For Tomorrow in 1980. Their final release on Gordy was Switch V which was released in 1981. Other than "There'll Never Be", songs such as "I Call Your Name" and "Best Beat in Town" also became hits for the group. Shortly after the DeBarge brothers left to mentor the group DeBarge with their siblings, and lead singer Philip Ingram left to pursue a solo career, new musicians were added in the personage. Former lead singer Bobby DeBarge died of AIDS-related complications in his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 16, 1995 at age 39.

    Legends of Music: Patsy Cline

We have the divas of music: Barbara, Celine, Whitney, Mariah...but there will never be another singer like Pasty Cline. Patsy Cline (September 8, 1932 – March 5, 1963), born Virginia Patterson Hensley, was an American country music singer who enjoyed pop music crossover success during the era of the Nashville sound in the early 1960s. Since her death at age 30 in a 1963 plane crash at the height of her career, she has been considered one of the most influential, successful, revered, and acclaimed female vocalists of the 20th century. Cline was best known for her rich tone and emotionally expressive bold contralto voice which, along with her role as a mover and shaker in the country music industry, has been cited and praised as an inspiration by many vocalists of various music genres. The story of her life and career has been the subject of numerous books, movies, documentaries, articles and stage plays. Posthumously, millions of her albums have been sold over the past 46 years and she has been given numerous awards, which has given her an iconic status with some fans similar to that of legends Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Only ten years after her death, she became the first female solo artist inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2002, she was voted by artists and members of the country music industry as number one on CMT's television special of the 40 Greatest Women of Country Music, and in 1999 she was voted number 11 on VH1's special The 100 Greatest Women in Rock and Roll by members and artists of the rock industry. According to her 1973 Country Music Hall of Fame plaque, "Her heritage of timeless recordings is testimony to her artistic capacity." Among those hits are "Walkin' After Midnight," "I Fall to Pieces," "She's Got You," "Crazy" and "Sweet Dreams."

The Inner Game of Stress: Outsmart Life's Challenges and Fulfill Your Potential

Join Jacqueline Foreman and her guests Dr. Edd Hanzelik, M.D. and Dr. John Horton, M.D. as they discuss the book they co-authored with W. Timothy Gallawey, The Inner Game of Stress: Outsmart Life's Challenges and Fulfill Your Potential. Renowned sports psychology expert W. Timothy Gallwey teams up with two esteemed physicians to offer a unique and empowering guide to mental health in today’s volatile world. The Inner Game of Stress applies the trusted principles of Gallwey’s wildly popular Inner Game series, which have helped athletes the world over, to the management of everyday stress–personal, professional, financial, physical–and shows us how to access our inner resources to maintain stability and achieve success. Stress attacks every aspect of our well-being. Gallwey explains how negative self-talk undermines us, making us believe that pressure is inevitable and that other people’s expectations are paramount–which leaves us feeling helpless and unhappy. But as Gallwey shows, we have the means to build a shield against stress with our abilities to take childlike pleasure in learning new skills, to properly and healthily rest and relax, and to trust in our own good judgment. With his trademark mix of case histories and interactive worksheets, Gallwey helps us to tap into these inner strengths, giving us invaluable tools.

New Circlemakers Insights into the Crop Circle Mystery

Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews Andrew Collins LIVE from the UK about his newest book New Circlemakers Insights into the Crop Circle Mystery (official release date 11/16/09! It's not even out yet, but I've got it and it was quite a read! Crop circles are patterns created by the flattening of crops such as wheat, barley, rye, or corn. The term crop circle was first used by Collins to describe simple circles he was researching. While patterns involving complex geometries have been observed, the term circle has stuck as a generic term for crop patterns. Various alternative hypotheses have been offered to explain the formation of crop circles such as the paranormal. It has also been suggested that ball lightning and vortices in the wind might rarely produce isolated indentations in crops. Join us to find out more about this phenomenon.

Twenty Five Words: How The Serenity Prayer Can Save Your Life

Join Jacqueline Foreman as she is joined once again by the one, the only, author Barb Rogers! These Twenty-five words are the bedrock of the worldwide Alcoholics Anonymous movement, a movement that has saved and improved millions of lives. When Barb Rogers first heard this prayer a quarter of a century ago, she could scarcely credit it and hadn't the ears to believe it. It all begins with "meee, meee, meee," she writes. As in, Why is God doing all these things to meee? Why doesn't God understand that I know what's best for mee and do what I ask him to? Why are other people doing all these things to mee? Well as it turns out, it's not all about "mee." Rogers tells her story and invites readers to take a tough, loving look at their own. There are some things we should accept, period. We shouldn't take them personally. We shouldn't whine or scream or go off on a tear. Then there are some things we can change, and we should probably take a look at those as well. And the real trick, the one that comes from years of saying the prayer and letting its healing principles sink in, is knowing the difference. Barb Rogers' own story starts in the depths of alcoholism, with deceased children, broken marriages, lost jobs. Sure there were reasons, but reasons didn't change anything: the Serenity Prayer did.
