    Show Recap: NYG vs KC

In this episode, the Giants defense applies some added pressure, wide receiver Steve Smith is on a Pro-Bowl track, and center Shaun O’Hara is pleased for not having to use the A-word.

With another game on the road for the NY Giants (4-0) against another subpar opponent it can only mean one thing, a victory. Last Sunday’s 27-16 defeat of the Kansas City Chiefs (0-4) earned the G-men the right to hold their heads up high as they return home to the Meadowlands undefeated. If you were to ask Talking Giants Football’s Anthony C. Wayne if he noticed anything different between the Giants’ performance last Sunday and that of the week before, he would probably say, “Not really.” For the majority of Giants fans, that assessment would most likely hold true.

However, midway through the third quarter against the Chiefs, something very different happened. Giants quarterback Eli Manning had to be taken out of the game due to what doctors later diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. Prior to heading to the sidelines, Manning was able to connect with rookie wide-out Hakeem Nicks who turned a routine screen pass into a 54-yard touchdown catch-and-run. Nicks, who captured his first career TD on that play, was pushed aside by the Giants new go-to-guy, Steve Smith who finished the afternoon with 11 catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Brandon Jacobs earned himself another solid performance rumbling for 92 yards. Manning, on the other hand, has been listed as day-to-day and his status for Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders is uncertain.

At the top of the show, co-host Tommy L. Biggs engages us with his own personal bout of plantar fasciitis and ponders the severity of tight end Kevin Boss’ ankle injury. Pleased with the Giants balanced attacked on offense, Wayne moves his attention towards the defense’s ability to sack Kansas City’s quarterback, Matt Cassel, five times. The show runs longer than scheduled due to the enthusiasm of a loyal listener who is disappointed with the performance of Lawrence Tynes thus far. After witnessing the place kicker’s inability to send a twenty-nine yard field goal through the uprights in Week 2, the caller introduces the notion that Giants head coach Tom Coughlin may opt to go for it on fourth-and-five the next time his offense is set up inside the opponent’s thirty-yard line.
