NY Football Giants opinions and analysis.
Date / Time: 9/17/2009 2:00 AM UTC
The anticipation is over and the 2009 football season is underway. Even with a few negatives from the NY Giants (1-0) in week one, Talking Giants Football’s Anthony C. Wayne enthusiastically states that “a win is a win.” Along with his co-host, Tommy L. Biggs, the show starts off with heavy criticism regarding the Giants inability to score a touchdown against the Washington Redskins (0-1) on three separate occasions inside the red zone. Wayne projects that if the G-men don’t rectify their red zone deficiencies soon, the Giants and their fans could be in for a very frustrating year. Fortunately for the Giants, they have a great offensive line, strong running backs, and a handful of receivers, TE Kevin Boss included.
Against the Redskins, QB Eli Manning gave the Giants a well-balanced performance by throwing the ball for 256 yards on 20-of-29 passing with an interception. His only touchdown was a 30-yard strike to second-year receiver Mario Manningham. The running attack struggled against Washington as Brandon Jacobs mustered up just 46 yards on 16 carries. Like always, the Giants defense did their part. Defensive ends Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora provided the one-two punch and solidified a well-fought divisional win against the Redskins.
As for the first regular season episode of Talking Giants Football, we were unexpectedly joined with Big Poppa, a long-time Giants fan. In addition to predicting that the Giants will be on the short-end of the stick come Sunday night in Dallas, he also expects more expletives from Eli Manning the next time he throws an interception. Early on in the show, Wayne and Biggs are both in agreement that the Giants are the class of the NFC East and they expect great things from head coach Tom Coughlin and the gang this season.
