NY Football Giants opinions and analysis.
Date / Time: 9/9/2009 2:34 AM UTC
With the NY Giants 53-man roster set, Anthony C. Wayne and Tommy L. Biggs have their share of comings and goings to mull over. The preseason is finally in the rear-view mirror which means every game from here on out, counts. Relaxed from the long Labor Day weekend and primed for the home-opener against the Washington Redskins, Wayne and Biggs dissect the Giants schedule. While both agree that the G-men are headed for another winning season, the prospect of them returning to the Super Bowl is met with some uncertainty. Even with a powerful running game and a solid mix of fine defensive players, the Giants wide receiver core and/or the defensive backs could be cause for concern if Big Blue fails to get out of the box right from the get-go.
After saying farewell to David Tyree, who will go down in New York sports lore for his helmet-style catch during Super Bowl XLII, Tommy L. Biggs reinforces his stance regarding tight end Kevin Boss. Biggs feels that Boss will give the Giants a big boost offensively this season as Anthony C. predicts that rookie wide-out Hakeem Nicks is this season’s X-factor. However, both agree that a balanced attack on offense will help lighten the workload of the Giants premier running back Brandon Jacobs.
The conversation then uncovers major concerns with the Giants defense. With a new defensive coordinator in Bill Sheridan at the helm and a rash of injuries already settling in before the season gets underway, Tommy L. is not sold on this year’s defensive unit. Without a healthy Antonio Pierce and the possibility of a disgruntled defensive lineman, ala Osi Umenyiora, Big Blue could be headed for a long season. The conversation moves off-topic for a brief moment as both, Wayne and Biggs, hint at the notion that the pressures of playing in the NFL may be a major cause for some of the recent off-the-field misbehavior.
