On this broadcast I had Catholic author Constance Gorman on with me today talking about her new book, ‘The Great Black Hope’.
This is an inspiring book about a Black standout high school football and track athlete named Tony who encountered a life changing event that sent him on the path to life-threatening depression. Tony’s plight from utter despair to a life full of hope and personal victories happens when he asks a Science teacher to teach him to read. This story takes off when God challenges the teacher to choose: Tony’s life or her career.
This was a really fun and vibrant broadcast. Constance’s book has so much depth about how God’s grace works to put allow each of us to be a Simon of Cyrene – to help our neighbor carry his cross. There was a lot to learn here as well – about education, depression, inner city struggles, and more.
