Junnita Jackson was born in Brooklyn, New York in the 70's. Being the oldest I often spent a lot of time alone in my room because of inflicting some type of torture on my youngest brother. During that time I discovered escape through fiction. I remember my mother bringing home stacks of books for me to read, she was an avid reader herself. Among them, my favorite, "Are you there God? It's me Margaret." by Judy Blume. Because of that book I started my own Are you there God? journals. I wonder where they are today. And as I'm typing this I'm considering starting those journals again. My love for words and expression showed itself publically when I attended Boys and Girls high School in Bed-Stuy. I performed a monologue, to audition for the drama club, from the collection of poems from For Colored Girls Who Consider Suicide When The Rainbow Was Enuf by Ntozake Shange. The reaction to the performance made me want to write and have people entertained by my words and how I strung them together to form images in their minds. I wanted to paint pictures with my words. I have always been a lover of words. If It Don't Hurt It Ain't Love by Junnita Jackson Kat, Tamia, and Vatyra tear apart and mend the cracks of their tattered hearts. Kat is a sultry and steamy woman with a mind boggling sex addiction. Nothing has ever come between Kat and a good time; but too much of a good time may cost her a trip down the aisle. Coma stricken, Tamia's sanity hangs on by a thread as she keeps seeing her deceased love, James. Maybe James will let her stay with him instead of sending her back to reality to care for their teenage son. Although Vatyra's heart has been trampled more than once, she finds the strength to let Kevin back into her heart. Just when she thinks life could be sweet, his ex-freak-of-the-week returns to claim what she believes belongs to her.

Empowering Women and fighting human trafficking in Uganda -- Meet Christine Ertl

Christine Ertl needs your help! Check out her blog at http://soletosoul.wordpress.com/ it will explain her story. It’s about empowerment and fighting human trafficking.

    SOLE TO SOUL

The bottom surface of my running shoes says a lot about me. The wear and tear along the pads and heels show the miles I have tread and the time I have committed. The discolored and dirty surface displays the seasonal weather conditions I’ve endured. While this seemingly ordinary physical description could be compared with many running advocates, it’s what’s written directly on the soles of my shoes that tells the real story.

It is a healing journey that brought me through the roughest terrain and now I want to bring those same soles to Uganda – with your help.

Before each run no matter how long or short, I gather up my running gear and a pen. Anything that stands out from my day, touches my heart or is on my mind goes from inside me to the bottom sole of my shoe. It is where in one or two words, a symbol or a mark I am able to physically express what is going on inside. By expressing my soul on the sole of my shoe, I find inspiration to keep going when I feel I cannot go farther. It is a physical way for me to run on, for and because of all that inspires, frightens and ultimately, all that makes me who I am today.
I am not a natural runner by God given talent. I do not stand out as particularly fast or swift. But what can be seen is that I keep going when my asthma makes gasping for air difficult. Running for me is not always enjoyable. It is not easy. It is a challenge to continue when your body says give up. It’s because of what’s written on my sole that I cannot do that. I find inspiration while running by embracing all that knocks me down and all that builds me up.

My running shoes are my journal.

Check out her blog at http://soletosoul.wordpress.com it will explain her story. It’s about empowerment and fighting human trafficking. So join us tonight for a great conversation! Julia's latest release Begonia Brown -- A Philadelphia Story the second book in a series. Strawberry Mansion was the first. Join us for a discussion aobut urban fiction, real life, writing, and publishing with the CEO of Queen Midas Books -- Julia Press Simmons. A woman who doesn't even have the word impossible in her vocabulary! Julia writes on her webpage @ Queen Midas Books: “I've spun tales for as long as I can remember—big ol' fat tales from my imagination. I was twelve years old when I began to write them down. Four years later, a couple of months after the birth of my son, I recognized my gift for what is was. Deep in the bowels of postpartum depression, I penned my first poem entitled “Suicide.” I poured all of my hurt into verse, and when I was done, the pain was gone. Since then I’ve received awards for my poetry, and I’ve had plays staged in Tennessee and New York, but nothing can compare to the overwhelming joy of “Strawberry Mansion,” my very first novel and now my second novel BEGONIA BROWN the second in my series titled A PHILADELPHIA STORY. Words cannot express how grateful I am to everyone who has read it thus far, and for those who will read it in the future. Thank you all for helping to make my dreams come true!” http://www.gueenmidasbooks.com

BEGONIA BROWN – A Philadelphia Story

We were named for the flowers in Grandma's Garden. Begonias, Violets and Daisies, and much like those flowers, we were showered with a love that rivaled the sun’s rays. We knew nothing of pain, or sorrow, or just how cruel the world could be until the day God saw fit to call Grandma Home. Her heart stopped two weeks after Daisy was born. My mother smoked us homeless two weeks after that. Now with Grandma gone and mommy on a constant crack high it's up to me to keep our little family together, and you best believe I'll stop at nothing to do just that. My name is Begonia Brown. I am a 17-year-old hustler and this is my story.

From the critically acclaimed author of Strawberry Mansion comes the tale of Begonia Brown. Raised in the unforgiving streets of North Philadelphia, Begonia Brown is undoubtedly a product of her environment, young, ruthless, and criminally minded.

Join us Thursday night for an interesting conversation.

    A Conversation with Lynda Drews

Run at Destruction contains a Reading Group Guide and is unique. It's the only book categorized in these two ways: True Crime and Sports/Running. Anne Rule, the best-selling true crime author of The Stranger Beside Me, Small Sacrifices, and Mortal Danger said Lynda's book is: "Wonderfully written. A must for true-crime readers." Sean Hartnett, correspondent for Track & Field News said: "Run at Destruction is riveting and compelling... the 2009 runner's read!" While Publisher's Weekly said: "this title... relies on the strong bond between author and victim for emotional weight; passages about their shared moments, and Drews's feelings of emptiness in the decades since, are remarkable." Lynda Drews, a Wisconsin native, recently gave the commencement speech at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, her college Alma mater. One lesson she shared with the graduates was: “to journal your life.” When Lynda, a marketing executive, made the decision to retire after her thirty-year career, she returned to an earlier passion. Run at Destruction is the outcome. Lynda and her husband, Jim, a retired guidance counselor and an accomplished runner, have two sons, Collin and Chris, and a golden retriever named Bailey. The family has lived in Green Bay since the mid-seventies and helped launch the local running movement. The city now hosts the nation’s fifth largest 10K, the Bellin Run. There's a love triangle between three teachers/runners, a suspicious bathtub drowning, and a small-town community rattled by speculation. But rather than an intriguing work of fiction, the events in Run at Destruction: A True Fatal Love Triangle really happened and they happened to the author's best friend. On November 12 at 9:00 PM EST, long-time runner and book author, Lynda Drews, will be interviewed about her new non-fiction, true-crime book.
