Break The Cycle

Please join me every Thursday at 12:00 Noon (EST) at www.blogtalkradio.com/marymoon and step out into your Last Miracle Mile! Listen, as I read to you from The Last Miracle Mile and share with you what I’ve learned about the trauma of victimization. I know firsthand about healing from the trauma of being victimized, and it’s my intent to teach others what I’ve learned so they can empower their lives. Mine is not your typical self-help book; it’s an inspiring hope filled story of healing, and forgiveness.

SOLE TO SOUL
The bottom surface of my running shoes says a lot about me. The wear and tear along the pads and heels show the miles I have tread and the time I have committed. The discolored and dirty surface displays the seasonal weather conditions I’ve endured. While this seemingly ordinary physical description could be compared with many running advocates, it’s what’s written directly on the soles of my shoes that tells the real story.
It is a healing journey that brought me through the roughest terrain and now I want to bring those same soles to Uganda – with your help.
Before each run no matter how long or short, I gather up my running gear and a pen. Anything that stands out from my day, touches my heart or is on my mind goes from inside me to the bottom sole of my shoe. It is where in one or two words, a symbol or a mark I am able to physically express what is going on inside. By expressing my soul on the sole of my shoe, I find inspiration to keep going when I feel I cannot go farther. It is a physical way for me to run on, for and because of all that inspires, frightens and ultimately, all that makes me who I am today. I am not a natural runner by God given talent. I do not stand out as particularly fast or swift. But what can be seen is that I keep going when my asthma makes gasping for air difficult. Running for me is not always enjoyable. It is not easy. It is a challenge to continue when your body says give up. It’s because of what’s written on my sole that I cannot do that. I find inspiration while running by embracing all that knocks me down and all that builds me up.
My running shoes are my journal. http://soletosoul.wordpress.com

A CONVERSATION WITH AUTHOR JULIA PRESS SIMMONS
Thursday, December 3, 2009 @ 9:00 PM EST
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/yolandarenee/2009/12/04/a-conversation-with-julia-press-simmons
Julia writes on her webpage @ Queen Midas Books: “I've spun tales for as long as I can remember—big ol' fat tales from my imagination. I was twelve years old when I began to write them down. Four years later, a couple of months after the birth of my son, I recognized my gift for what is was. Deep in the bowels of postpartum depression, I penned my first poem entitled “Suicide.” I poured all of my hurt into verse, and when I was done, the pain was gone. Since then I’ve received awards for my poetry, and I’ve had plays staged in Tennessee and New York, but nothing can compare to the overwhelming joy of “Strawberry Mansion,” my very first novel and now my second novel BEGONIA BROWN the second in my series titled A PHILADELPHIA STORY. Words cannot express how grateful I am to everyone who has read it thus far, and for those who will read it in the future. Thank you all for helping to make my dreams come true!” http://www.gueenmidasbooks.com BEGONIA BROWN – A Philadelphia Story
We were named for the flowers in Grandma's Garden. Begonias, Violets and Daisies, and much like those flowers, we were showered with a love that rivaled the sun’s rays. We knew nothing of pain, or sorrow, or just how cruel the world could be until the day God saw fit to call Grandma Home. Her heart stopped two weeks after Daisy was born. My mother smoked us homeless two weeks after that. Now with Grandma gone and mommy on a constant crack high it's up to me to keep our little family together, and you best believe I'll stop at nothing to do just that. My name is Begonia Brown. I am a 17-year-old hustler and this is my story. From the critically acclaimed author of Strawberry Mansion comes the tale of Begonia Brown. Raised in the unforgiving streets of North Philadelphia, Begonia Brown is undoubtedly a product of her environment, young, ruthless, and criminally minded.
Join us Thursday night for an interesting conversation.
