American Plumbing Supply - an after podcast reprise

I was driving myself crazy this morning. The plan was to easily play my prerecorded interview with the wonderful Lekowsky family at about 6:30 a.m. this morning but I started by over-clicking on the play upload button. This causes the recorded upload of the interview to start playing over itself. No problem I think but then I had forgotten that the interview ended very abruptly so I'm sitting there not prepared to finish out the podcast.

I also decided that the recording was a little hard to hear so I'm experimenting with the percentage of sound to see how this might impact the final outcome of the podcast for others. Clearly I've got tons of room to grow on the tech learning curve as far as sound quality.

My Zen mode of the morning was completely shattered as I deleted frantically the first run through of the interview and rescheduled. Thinking it would be a breeze the second time I began again with everything seemingly running smoothly but then there was my cordless mouse. It has this habit of sort of hibernating and then I have to click it's on button again to get the pointer moving. Well this time I clicked it on right over the stop button for the recorded interview and cut myself off. Arrrrrrgh!

I apologize to anyone who might have been listening live and thanks to blog talk as always for continuing to improve the user-friendly features. People like me need that!

Third time was a charm and I am honestly very proud of this interview. Enjoy!

American Plumbing Supply - David Lekowsky and family

This was such a fun interview to do that I’m very excited to share it with you. American Plumbing Supply is a little family owned business in Des Moines, Iowa that has been providing customers with plumbing fixtures since the Depression. If you have an older house, American Plumbing Supply could be a great resource to find replacements.

post pod the interview with James McKelvey of MIRA Digital Publishing

#36 post pod interview:  There's no doubt about it. A podcast experience is not complete unless I'm creating a bit of the ol' drama for myself minutes prior to the time of the podcast. I'm working to maintain a somewhat professional stature but then I've got organization issues built in to undermine that goal. Today it was giving the guest the wrong phone number and only realizing it about 10 minutes before the time of the podcast.

I guess on the up side I can at least be happy I was reviewing my questions and notes prior to the interview so that I found my mistake. A few quick calls and a little stalking of James ended up with a successful contact just a few minutes before he needed to call in.

James did a great job of mixing the talk about his business with more in depth information about his entrepreneurial experience. Ultimately it is my goal to have guests spend at least an equal share of their time talking about their experience not just what they do or offer.

Speaking of technical stuff . . . Next month I plan to be interviewing guests from overseas in the UK. My plan is to call them via conference call on my Skype account. I'm told from Blog Talk Tech support that this will work. If you are a fellow podcaster out there who does this and you have tips let me know! I have not much used Skype to date but plan to as I interview more small business owners overseas.

    Thanks for listening!

Entrepreneur People a chat with Lorraine Cohen

My interview process starts with some research which usually consists mostly of a review of the guest's website and other comments found via google. In the case of the interview with Lorraine Cohen, we had the chance to speak for a bit prior to our the podcast.

She is a seasoned podcaster herself and explains she has a great deal of experience working with people. Her background eventually led her to becoming a life coach to help others overcome fears and get "unstuck." I've personally not used the services of a coach at this point and always wonder what gets others excited about this profession. Clearly we can hear from Lorraine that her passion is extensive for what she does.

This was particularly helpful on the day of the podcast as I had to slide in by the "seat of my pants" to another location for the interview. Here in the Midwest we were in the midst of a major ice storm and thus power was knocked out at my house. A rather slow and slippery ride over to another house with power meant I felt rushed. Lorraine chats in soothing tones and manages to share a great deal of information and insights in spite of my harried pace.

#35 party palisades, one-stop bridal destination in Indianola, Iowa. An interview with Linda Hayes

I've been unsure how to post on blogtalkradio because I also post all interviews to the website www.dsmbuzz.com. I couldn't decide whether to repeat posts or what else I might add to the conversation from one site to another not to mention the podcast which pretty "much says it all."

Then I thought maybe the audience reading posts on blogtalk is made up more of fellow podcasters and seasoned podcast listeners so I'm going to test out that theory here for awhile in regards to blog content and address my thoughts about the specific program, the person interviewed, and the lessons I'm learning from conducting these interviews.

Today's podcast was prerecorded during the summer with Linda Hayes owner of Party Palisades. With each interview I learn something new about the interview process. I think the quality of my questions has improved.

My ultimate goal is to interview entrepreneurs all over the world and learn about what drives them, how they make decisions, and why they decide to be entrepreneurs. In addition, I gather information about their particular business and their unique position. I especially select guests who are small business owners, someone building an enterprise that may never grow huge but be a sustainable and important business in a community. I think there stories are interesting.

This is the kind of information that can help others consider their own business and their own journey whether they are currently business owners or desire to start their own venture.

In this interview, Linda does a really nice job of explaining how she accomplishes her goals, stays focused, but also manages changes in her business based on the feedback of her customers. Notice that this is an in-person interview. I think I really prefer those when the opportunity permits.

The funny thing here is that I muck up the name of my own podcast. Notice how I stumble all over myself in the begining.

    Thanks for listening and reading!
