The world of book publishing has been undergoing a number of changes of late. E-books and the Internet have taken a toll on the great publishing giants of New York, though there are some bastions specialty publishing that still exist. One of these is the U.S. Naval Institute (USNI) Press of Annapolis Maryland. Closely aligned with the Naval Academy, USNI Press produces a number of volumes specifically tailored to the interests and needs of professional naval personnel, along with those who have personal/professional interests in naval affairs.

One of their most impressive books, which they publish every few years, is COMBAT FLEETS OF THE WORLD. Edited by Eric Wertheim, COMBAT FLEETS is generally considered to be the finest such reference volume in the world today. it lists literally every ship, submarine, aircraft, and weapon system used by navies in the world today, and is a must-have book for anyone seriously involved in trying to understand the world's naval forces.

To learn more about this impressive volume and how it is created, join military historian, author and journalist John D. Gresham for Military Monday at 1 p.m. Eastern. His guests this week will be the editor of COMBAT FLEETS OF THE WORLD, Eric Wertheim. Together they will talk about how this massive volume was put together, and what new things it shows in terms of naval trends across the globe. Listeners are encouraged to call in, and talk to Mr. Gresham and Mr. Wertheim, about their own thoughts on this book, and the current state of navies today.
