All of America's armed services provide a unique set of capabilities which contribute overall to U.S. national security. The US Air Force is no exception, providing access and benefits inherent to operating above planet Earth, all the way into near Earth space. And like the rest of the U.S. armed services, the Air Force is dealing with the very real effects of the Budget Control Act/Sequestration. And much like the other armed services, sequestration is no longer just terminating redundant or optional capabilities and services. Fiscal Year 2014 promises even deeper cuts, including those which might be looked upon as giving up baseline capabilities and infrastructure.

To get a better feeling for the state of the U.S. Air Force, join host John D. Gresham for Military Monday at 1 PM EDT on August 19th. His guest this week is Lieut. Gen. David Deptula, USAF (Ret.),  former Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and one of the world's leading experts on air power. Gen. Deptula will also talk about the present day Air Force roles and missions, the effects of sequestration to date, possible further cuts in the 2014 U.S. Air Force budget, and the effects on long-term modernization programs from the Budget Control. Listeners are encouraged to call in and offer questions and thoughts to Mr. Gresham and Gen. Deptula.
