Remembering Randeep Sodhi Wrestler-Coach-Manager-Humanitarian Sep 3, 1974 – Mar 18, 2011 *** The Canadian wrestling and extended Indo-Canadian communities are mourning the sudden loss of 9-Time Canadian Senior National Wrestling medalist (1997-2004) & 1997 Commonwealth Wrestling Championships (96 Kg) gold medalist, Randeep Sodhi on March 18, 2011 in Surrey, BC due to an unexpected medical complication. ***** Born in the small northern town of Williams Lake, BC, Randeep, excelled in wrestling as a BC High School Champion to Canadian Junior National Champion (90 Kg) and finally Canadian Senior National Champion (96 Kg) in both Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling. Although Randeep’s wrestling success will be respected and forever forged in Canadian Wrestling history, it will be the memories of the spirit of humility, respect and giving to others he displayed that will endure forever in the hearts and minds of the Canadian wrestling community, Indo-Canadian youth and his immediate and extended family. “The loss of Randeep cannot be matched,” lamented Satnam Johal. “He was a tremendous giver to the children and youth of our community and he took on the added responsibility of taking care of his family after his mother died and father became ill three years ago. “His whole life was giving to his family, wrestling and the youth of our community.” he added. Randeep’s commitment to change and create opportunity for Indo-Canadian youth wrestlers also included volunteering on the Board of Directors for the BC Wrestling Association. ********* The loss of Randeep Sodhi is far reaching and impactful to the lives of all those who he encountered. Randeep will not be forgotten. Supported by Randeep’s family, listen to the Wrestling Edge Radio Monday, Mar 21, 6pm-8pm Pacific and hear from wrestling friends who will share their thoughts about Randeep Sodhi including Satnam Johal, Owen Dawkins, Clint Kingsbury, Jamie Macari, Nazir Lal, Gia Sissaouri & Par Badasha
