Join Susan Dobbe Chase as she talks to Jamaal St. John.

Jamaal’s illustrious poetic career started at the famed Nuyorican Poets Cafe when he was 18 years old. His contemporaries were Jessica Care moore, Saul Williams, Louis Reyes Rivera, Tish Benson, Suheir Hammad just to name a few. Through many poetic slams, Jamaal paid his dues to earn the opportunity to slam several times in the Grand Slam Finals at the Nuyorican Jamaal won the opportunity to slam in Nationals with the Nuyorican to eventually take 3rd place in Providence, Rhode Island.
