Welcome to WordSmitten, glad you’e joining us for this edition of About the Books.

Our guest today is Leslie Mandel-Herzog, founder and owner of the RichList company and wife of the legendary author and journalist Arthur Herzog.

The topic is ebook publishing. We are talking about process: Converting a bestselling author’s hardcover and paperback books and navigating the choppy waters of distribution through Amazon, Booktango, Kindle, Kobo, and Nook.

For years, Leslie and Arthur have been friends of our WordSmitten programs and before he passed away in May of 2010, Arthur wrote a feature article, adapted from his book on writing, for our main site {WordSmitten.com].The article, on the topic of Point of View (POV), receives thousands of unique views to this day because the topic of POV is so important for new writers to understand.

We invited Leslie Mandel Herzog to discuss the distribution channels available to writers who take their work to the world of electronic publishing. Leslie, who runs her company, RichList, from New York, talks with us from her home in the Hamptons. We discuss her husband’s legacy, his estate, and the challenges for someone responsible for the enduring legacy of a bestselling author. Today’s questions cover the legal issues of legacies, the process of producing ebooks, and the variety of distribution methods, platforms, and devices.

Recent guests include Pulitzer Prize-winning authors Jane Smiley, Elizabeth Strout, and Edward P. Jones.
