Thursday December 8 on Word of Mom Rachel Mehta shares her company, Me on a Tee!  These custom designed shirts reflect your ancestry and are a vehicle for families to talk about their history and culture.  Shirts may have a flag pole flying all the flags of your family’s ancestry, or a pie graph showing a little bit of this, a little bit of that – all the wonderful parts that make each of us who we are. My shirt would fly flags from Italy, Spain, Poland and Puerto Rico – what flags would yours have? Observing so many families of various origins, including her own, and understanding the mass waves of immigration to this country have waned, Rachel realize the children may not be learning enough about their family history and their cultural origins. The idea is to get the older generations to pass along family history to the younger generation so that children learn about how their family came to America, what choices had to be made, what life was like getting settled, etc. Rachel wants children to understand their family past informs their present life here in the US. Simply, she thought the t-shirts could be a fun way to get those conversations started and to celebrate cultural diversity. Join us Thursday on BlogTalkRadio at 2pmET/11amPT and find out how to get your Me on a Tee in time for the holidays. Listeners will have a discount code to use as a gift for tuning in. As a first time mom from Southern California, trying to find items that were both eco-friendly and stylish was difficult since what was available on the market was very limited. Other friends agreed there was not much on the market in terms of eco-friendly products, blankets etc. made of such new textiles as bamboo and soybean. So after much research and support from family and friends Lotus Bèbè was started, offering those sustainable luxury items for babies.  With a background in various industries from accounting to marketing,  helped to put all of the pieces to work in Lotus Bèbè. We want to focus on offering products that are eco-friendly, fairly traded, high quality and cherished for many years. In 2003, Baby Fanatic Founder and President, Tricia Woodson, couldn’t find a suitable baby gift for another crazed Mom fan and went into action. She fulfilled the need for a complete product offering of licensed baby products in just under a year. Woodson developed a product line which embodied the passion and the excitement of the sports enthusiast, including her three young Virginia Tech Hokie fans. Her children could spell H-O-K-I-E-S before they could spell their own names. In early February 2010, after spending an afternoon at a cooking show with friends and with the support of my incredible husband, Maria decided to try her hand at being a Pampered Chef Consultant, and absolutely fell in love!  Her passion for her own business created a monster you could say... and Maria began chatting with fellow moms who were in the same position, working hard to maintain their families and bringing in extra income on their own terms!  When she realized there was a lack of an outlet for all of them to showcase their talents, Maria decided to organize a trade show... what was the worst that could happen? Her days are filled with elementary school yard duty, writing, nurturing MommyLoves.com and wishing she could pursue all the dreams and inventions that seep into her mind.  Mary’s love of discovery prompted her mother to say that she would someday wear a lab coat, and this prophesy came true. Mary went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Food Science from U.C. Berkeley, which led to a career in Nutrition and Weight Loss counseling.  After a decade in the health field, she switched to Career Placement counseling. It was during this Career Placement foray that she hit the “Bump” that was her ‘messy, two broken legs while 8 months pregnant’ life that prompted her to “Take a Left” into self employment, and all things entrepreneurial. She was tired of combing through book after book trying to find out what was going on in her pregnancy. Not only that but the information was often negative and discouraging. Keeping that in mind, the web’s first interactive pregnancy calendar was created. It gave an end-user a snippet of information each and every day, as well as creating one of the early online pregnancy and parenting communities. Over the next year or so, the pregnancy calendar became such a popular tool, (the site was featured on CNN as a “Website of the day” and in Yahoo Magazine as an innovative “don’t miss” tool) When her son was 19-months-old Editor-in-Chief, Clare Ellis, asked if Mollee wanted to come on board and create the online community for BabyCenter. Mollee, ready to get back into the workforce, said a very enthusiastic, "yes," and in April of 1998 joined BabyCenter as employee number 20. Over the next three years, Mollee created one of the web’s most popular online communities and content. After surviving three layoffs and two buyouts, Mollee left BabyCenter in July, 2001. Frustrated by the lack of human interaction, empathy, and compassion in the marketplace, Mollee decided to create another site of her own – and launched Pregnancy.org September 10, 2001. In 2004, Mollee moved to South Florida where she resides today, and continues to champion to empower women one day at a time. She believes that our only limitations are the ones we put on ourselves and that anything is possible. With the acquisition of Pregnancy.org by Alere in January, 2011, Mollee is excited about all the possibilities now open to her and the company. She works with three incredible women to make their wish lists a reality.  01:01:00Word of MomnoMollee Bauer,Word of Mom,Dori DeCarlo,Business Building,Social MediaThursday May 26 Mollee Bauer joins me here on BlogTalkRadio.  Mollee  got her start in the Internet space in 1995 when she was pregnant with her son Ezra. After searching online for many months, trying to come up products to sell and not being able to find anything that spoke to me, she had an AHA MoMent! While watching Oprah, Abbey was intrigued by the segment on MoM bloggers and although she had never really thought about Blogging as an profession, Heather Armstrong from Dooce.com changed her mind. Seeing how a mom just like herself could make a living out of blogging about her life then Abbey could do it, too! On top of just blogging, Abbey wanted to offer some kind of service to family run business owners. These types of businesses are usually hit the hardest when the economy is bad and she didn't want to see all of their efforts go to waste. So why not offer FREE ADVERTISING. And that's where we started! Living My MoMent has grown quite a bit over the last year and an half. Through this growth, we have incorporated many other options for the small business owner to advertise with us on our site: Ad Spaces, Product Reviews, Giveaways, Blogrolls, Dedicated Articles, Promotions on Facebook and Twitter and much more. On March 31st here on BlogTalkRadio Word of Mom is talking with Beth Butler - better known as Boca Beth - who has made it fun for our children to learn Spanish as a second language. Beth began her journey when her daughter was 14 months old and enrolled in a pre-school to encourage interaction. Beth would visit the school and would write songs to melodies of familiar children’s music. Little children (being the sponges that they are between the ages of birth to five) soaked up the new songs quickly, asking for “More Boca Beth / Más Boca Beth” with each visit made to their preschool. Thus the Boca Beth program was born!!! Her goal is to create better communication within our increasingly diverse society by providing a fun and easy introduction to Spanish and English with music, movement and creativity. The program now features 4 bilingual CD's. 3 bilingual educational movies, color/activity books, puppets and more.  01:01:00Word of MomnoBoca Beth,Bilingual Education,Music,Social Media,EducationOn March 31st here on BlogTalkRadio Word of Mom is talking with Beth Butler - better known as Boca Beth - who has made it fun for our children to learn SpaEmpowering our Youth with Dr. Linette Danielshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/wordofmom/2011/03/24/empowering-our-youth-with-dr-linnette-danielsSocial Networkinghttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/wordofmom/2011/03/24/empowering-our-youth-with-dr-linnette-daniels/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/wordofmom/2011/03/24/empowering-our-youth-with-dr-linnette-danielsThu, 24 Mar 2011 18:00:00 GMTEmpowering our Youth with Dr. Linette Daniels  On Thursday March 10th at 2pmEST/11amPST I will be speaking with Dr. Linette Daniels on Word of Mom here on BlogTalkRadio. Living My MoMent was started in April 2009 when Abbey was trying to figure out a way to make some extra cash. A Stay at Home Mom to her daughter at the time she really wanted to contribute somehow to their income. "Life as a mom is tough. We give, we sacrifice, we love more than we ever dreamed we could. And for some moms, we face the extra challenges of life as a single parent, military mom, or parent of children with special needs. I am one of those moms. I have four daughters - two adopted from foster care - both diagnosed with juvenile bipolar and ADHD, whose past left them struggling to attach to people, and whose present behaviors push our family to it’s limits. Moms like us have a choice to make: To face our extraordinary challenges in a way that is life-giving to everyone in our home... or to run from the challenges, succumb to weariness, and give up. I choose to thrive. I choose to laugh. I choose to build relationships with other moms who are strong and fight for their families too. To end the kind of poverty Mother Theresa said was worst:“...loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.” And so I’ve made that my mission for over 10 years. I speak for women’s groups on ways to thrive and handle difficulty, and I coach women facing challenges due to loss and change. On my website, I blog about choices, courage, overcoming, community and having hope. I’ve just begun work on my first book - a resource for parents raising challenging kids, filled with stories of real families, a lot of humor, and practical tools to thrive no matter what life brings. Remember the old stereotype of people feigning baby-talk saying "Gagagougou..." well - Iris Wu took that playful moment and turned it into a great store where moms can buy good products, essential products, at a price they can afford. How did Gagagougou begin? As a WAHM of 2 small children, Iris was one of the first moms in her family to stay at home and create a home-based business. Deciding to work from home while pregnant with her second child, she started a mommy group and, with all the new products on the market every day, she began testing out new items and gadgets. Friends began asking her what she liked and didn't and eventually, they began suggesting that she share her experiences with other moms so they didn't waste their time and money on useless products. Thus began Gagagougou! So - now Iris started an internet based business - but just how do you go about funding, marketing and building your business when you have a 4 and 2 year old at home?!? With a little help from your friends, thats how. Mompreneurs know that moms support moms and Iris turned to past Word of Mom guest Shara from Mommy Perks to advertise Gagagougou and really get the word out. She also began Gaga-Blog to bridge the gap between Gagagougou, parents, WAHMs and the companies of the products she shares and reviews. Her story is so interesting and she will be sharing this and more with me on Thursday October 28th at 2pm EST. All my life, singing has been a large part of who I am and as a mom - I brought that to my children. Walking down the street and breaking into song was never unusual for me and they would join right in. Well, I am not alone! On Thursday July 29 at 2pm EST Wendy and Sherry, the founders of KIBOOMU join me to share their mission of making children smarter through music. KIBOOMU stands for Kids, Books & Multimedia, is their brainchild. Wendy was the founder and owner of KIDZUP, an award winning children's music and media publishing company based in Montreal, Canada. In 2004 was named one of Canada's top 100 woman entrepreneurs! Wanting to expand, Wendy bought Tormont Publications and met Sherry in 2006. Sherry was the Children's Book Publisher at Readers Digest Canada and had been the Marketing Director at Pearson Education, the biggest educational publisher in the world. Can you see the writing on the wall! They were destined to collaborate. Sherry joined Wendy at Tormont and they quickly became known as the "New Tormont". Then, as life does, things changed rapidly! In 2007 the CD market crashed, 2008 the biggest recession since the Great Depression hit and in 2009 Wendy moved to CA for her daughter Sara. Sherry became the President of KIDZUP/Tormont and then they sold the print side of the companies. They take on the amazing role of that mom who has to tread lightly because they are not the mom - they are that step between the parents. My guests this week - Heather - from http://www.CafeSmom.com, Paula Publisher and CEO of ReMarriageWorks http://www.remarriagemag.com and Sweetie Berry from http://www.ajoyfulplacecalledhome.com are three Smom's as Heather's children call her that have found the balance in their families. They have created resources for the step-families so they can show their love and appreciation, offer guidance and a place where information is shared. All of us know that drive to perfection when it comes to parenting our children - well guess what - nobody is perfect and we need to accept that about ourselves. Personally I think this can be very difficult, especially when we have created and run successful businesses - where do we find the balance to make it all work. How, you may ask, do we do this? Enter Jacqueline Green, BA, who has been in parenting education for over 10 years. She began when was overwhelmed with parenting her two-year old son and new baby girl. One of her strengths as a parenting educator is that she knows what it is like to be able to manage a boardroom and yet be reduced to her knees by two little kids! Her main area of specialty is perfectionism and parenting, including related areas such as mood issues (anxiety and depression), anger issues and workaholism (not just for working moms!). Drawing from her personal experience as a recovering perfectionist, Jacqueline can help you thrive as a parent, instead of just survive. Jacqueline's website is http://GreatParentingPractices.com and her Facebook page is http://Facebook.com/GreatParentingPractices.
