WomenCount

WomenCount is a non-profit political organization that gives women of all generations and backgrounds from around the United States a powerful voice in the political process. We want to bring to light women candidates from across the country and help inspire more women to run for office and bring the number of women holding political office at every level to an all-time high. Our other mission is to help enact a Presidential Commission on Women. We currently have legislation in the House thanks to Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Ca). We are looking for all women to join the cause and help ensure that this legislation passes and the Commission becomes a reality, creating a new foundation for the next generation of women.

WomenCount Radio Talks to NM Legislator, Karen Giannini

When you start your legislative career with the nickname "the dragon slayer" you know you've got constituents with some high expectations. Karen Giannini earned the nickname last year after beating what most believed was an unbeatable opponent. A long time incumbent in what was considered a "safe" republican seat. Giannini, an Air Force vet, beat out Rep. Justine Fox-Young. While Fox-Young raised over $30,000 during the campaign, Giannini took seat after raising only $450. Which came in the form of two checks from the local teachers union. After her exceptional win, the Emerge New Mexico graduate, faced another issue; her job wasn't going to allow her to take the needed 60 days of leave to attend the New Mexico legislative session. And because New Mexico legislature only pays a small stipend with no benefits, which causes most members to continue working other full-time jobs, Giannini had to find a way to support her family and serve her constituents. Join WomenCount Radio as we welcome New Mexico's own dragon slayer, Rep. Karen Giannini.
