She has published articles in Shields Magazine and is affiliated with several professional organizations. During her time as President and Editor-in-Chief of Shields Magazine, she organized the structure of the magazine’s departments and was also involved with the marketing strategy. The magazine ceased its operation in 2006, as the publisher wanted to pursue other business opportunities. Cruz journalism contributions include: Cathy Hughes, Miri-Ben-Ari, Shemar Moore, Alpha Blackburn, Barbara Boyd, Carolene Mays, Melanie Fiona, Vivian Green, Terrie Williams, Britni Elise, and John Legend just to name a few. Her public awareness article on mental illness (published in Shields Magazine) gave readers insight on depression from an African-American male perspective. The magazine’s article highlights (during her time as editor-in-chief) consists of—then Illinois Senator—Barack Obama. Currently Cruz is at the helm of Signature J magazine—an arts, entertainment and lifestyle e-magazine bridging the very best of the past with the exciting new flare of the future. The magazine’s focus will also be on enlightening its readers in the areas of business, personal development, and health, among some of the many topics that will be featured. “Signature J represents the signature of a classic lifestyle.” She lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with her husband and two kids.
