September 13th Journey to Self: Connecting with your Inner Self

Ambassador of Abundance, Carrie Gebbie and Business Support Specialist, On-line Promotion Maven, and owner of Key Business Partners Teresa Morrow joined me as we talked about connecting with your inner self.

When is the last time you where in touch with the real you?

I am not talking about the mother in you, not the businessperson, not the wife or daughter, but the core of who you are.  I am talking about the real you, your essence, your soul, your total being.

In this modern age, women have set out to have it all, making “multi-tasking” the latest art form.  However, approach that have been adapted, women are forgetting the nurturing that is needed for personal definement and growth.

Each of us are unique individuals, each brings something to this world that no one else can.  However, our uniqueness and gifts to the world go untapped as we let the busyness of life takes over, allowing ourselves to be torn between our responsibly to others and the inherit responsibility that we have to foster our own self.

When was the last time you invested in who you are or who you want to be?

Carrie guided us all through a wonderful Guided Imagery Exercise that can be an important tool to connecting with your inner self.

Tips to connecting with your Inner Self:

~ Create a loving and nurturing relationship with yourself
    • ~ Trust yourself, your instincts, and intuition.
    • ~ Use mediations, quiet reflection, visualization, guided imagery to connect with yourself.
    • ~ Have a conversation with your self often, become a cheerleader for yourself.
    • ~ Seek out support (either professional or a support group, friends, family) to help you with this      journey.  You multiply your chances of success by having accountability, a source of     inspiration/motivation/empowerment, and the simple exchange of ideas.
    • ~ Let mistakes in your life be lessons, offering a chance to grow and improve yourself.

  • Date / Time:

September 6th Journey to Self: Taking care of YOU!

This was a great show, I talked with Elizabeth McElrath, health and wellness coach with Sonshine Health.

We discussed the importance of taking care of all areas of your life, your inner self as well as your physcial self.

    Tips mentioned in the show:

    • Make sure you are drinking enough water.  Elizabeth said that the 8 glasses we are have been told to drink is not enough.  To really see the benefits of water you need to drink half you weight in ounces (for example if you weight 100 lbs that is 50 oz. of water a day)
    • Find an exercise that you enjoy (walking, swimming, yoga, walking the stairs in your house, or even playing with your kids)
    • Make sure that you get enough sleep (REMEMBER sugar and caffeine are not substitutes for a good night rest!) If you have problems getting your mind to stop for you to go to sleep, try meditating or a relaxation technique before bed.
    • Read labels, pay attention to what you are putting in your body, even foods that advertise themselves as healthy may have chemicals and preservatives.
    • Maintain your social relationships (friends and family) As complex human beings we need to maintain our relationships.
    • Make yourself a priority!! You can not take care of others if you do not take care of yourself!!
    • Remember to seek out professional and peer support to help you succeed in your goals!

A special thanks to writer Michelle Yisreal for calling in and talking about making time for your children!!

August 30th Journey to Self: Taming your Inner Critic

I have found over the years that no one in the world is more critical of me than me.  It always seems that internally we are judging and talking to ourselves more harshly than the feedback we get from others.  My inner critic often demands perfection , which would cause me to edit, re-do, and doubt my original efforts.  Even though I always get tons of positive feedback from others, my inner critic can pick anything that I do apart in seconds

Are you your own worst critic?

What makes us tear our own selves down with internal criticism?

My guest Heidi Richards, founder and chief visionary of the WECAI network. We talked about how to tame your inner critic.

Here are some tips to help you with your inner critic:

    • Be confident and comfortable with your choices, they might not be what others would choose, but that is just fine.
    • Engage in positive self-talk to put that inner critic in its place and to reaffirm to yourself how wonderful you are.
    • Let go of the idea of perfection, it doesn't exist and is just a way of sabotaging yourself.
    • Practice good self-care.  Show your inner critic that you are a priority and worthy of your dreams!
    • Give yourself a break!  You inner critic and be demanding, know that it is ok to give your self a break.

August 23rd Journey to Self: Staying Positive in a Negative World

This was a FABULOUS show.  Business Catalyst Jenn Givler from JGivler Coaching joined me today to talk about how to stay positive in our too often negative world!

We have to come to the awareness of the infinite pairing of opposites keeping the universe going - birth and death, joy and sorrow, celebration and tragedy, and the list goes on.  During our lifetime we will see tragedy, we will know sorrow, we will feel regret; it is not a question that negative things will come into our lives.  The key is our ability to deal and rebound from the negativity going on in our lives, and in the world around us.

We do not have to let the disheartening news from the world shade our perceptions.  When we focus on the positive, we can help ourselves from falling into the darkness.  Be grateful for the all the positives in your life.  Hold tight to what you are grateful for because it will help you get through the doom and gloom the world portrays.

(exert from Journey to Self Column, go here to read the full story)

Here is some tips on how to bring positivity into your life:

    • Practice gratitude! Keep a Gratitude Journal and refer to the blessings in your life when you feel yourself getting sucked into a negative place.
    • Make the choice to start your day off positively with journaling or affirmations.  Set the intention to make it a wonderful day first thing when you wake up.
    • Surround yourself with positive people!  Let their positive outlook and energy infect you!
    • Use visualization to have as Jenn mentioned "Crystal Clear Vision".
    • LAUGH!!! No, situation looks that bad when you are laughing.
    • Seek out positive and inspirational news.

Remember you can e-mail me with comments or questions and will chose some to be read on the show.

  • Date / Time:

August 16th Journey to Self: The Power of "No"

It was a fantastic show! My guest Katherine Reschke from Better Parenting Coach and I talked about the power of the word "no".  We discussed reasons for not being able to say "no", setting priorities and boundaries, and the benefits of taking control of your time.

“No” is a simple word, but often the hardest to say.  What makes us incapable of saying “no” to people and situations? Take a moment and think about your life…

Do you feel compelled to say “yes”, even when you need to say “no”?

It is commonplace for women to take care of everyone but themselves, leaving a void in their lives. As we go down the path of doing for others, with little regard to the chaos it creates in our lives, we feel the strain. There is pressure to live up to an impractical model, a superwomen type that can say "yes" to everyone, while still presenting herself “fresh as a daisy”, smiling that million dollar smile so big you wonder if her cheeks are going to cramp up.  Happy to do for others, all the time, day in and day out, until…there is nothing left.

August 9th Journey to Self: The journey.....

What a fabulous show!  No matter where you are in the journey to self process you can learn and grow.  My guest was Teresa Morrow of Key Business Partners and we talked about what we released to get to a better sense of self, what we are working towards, and what we want for the future.

Remember your sense of self is the window that you look through to see the world.  If it is not healthy then you are not seeing the world or the opportunities that the world presents as clearly as you could.  Embark on the journey to self and start making the life that you dream about reality!

Until next time, enjoy the journey to self and everything in between.
