Call in to speak with the host
What does an OCD and fear stricken detective, a cannibalistic serial killer, and a wizard all have in common? After all, Monk solves crimes, Hannibal commits crimes, and Gandalf fights against evil. For that matter, none of these people are real. So what's the connection they all share?
The first obvious one may be that they are all male. That's true but that's not the connection I am referring to. What I am getting at is that they are interesting character. They pop from the screen and the pages. You know their personalities, how they respond to certain situations, their strengths, their weaknesses, their quirks, and a whole host of other minutia that make you relate to them.
Character development cannot be overstressed. A great plot line can be ruined by a poorly developed characters. A setting where the characters do not interact appropriately can ruin the story. All in call, creating interesting characters is an essential part to great story telling.
Join me as I sit down with Stephanie Karfelt, author of the book Warrior of the Ages as we discuss how to develop interesting characters. You can call in at 646-595-2083, press 1 to be live on air. Or, download the WLUV Radio mobile app. Any way you can, join us!
