The press release calls for the state to "provide the best services to state residents at the most affordable price."  As always, the devil is in the details. The focus of the plan is to push state employees to do more work, in less time, with less pay. One of the largest areas of cuts - to Wisconsin Correctional Officers and state prisons. As Rep. Vruwink (D-70th AD) observed during a recent prison tour: "Wisconsin’s existing adult inmate population exceeds capacity by 26.9%.  Wisconsin has high incarceration rates, including an extremely high African American to white incarceration rate gap of 10.6 to 1. The concern for the safety of correctional officers, as demonstrated through Senator King’s listening sessions, is high.  I will work with my colleagues to address these issues to ensure that public safety is not compromised."
