Peter Abaci, MD, is certified in anesthesia and pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He serves as the Medical Director of the nationally recognized Bay Area Pain and Wellness Center, located in Los Gatos, California, which he cofounded with Dr. John Massey. Dr. Abaci received his bachelor’s degree and graduated magna cum laude from UC San Diego, attended medical school at the University of Southern California, and performed his specialty training in pain management at UC San Francisco. A widely respected expert on chronic pain management and a highly successful chronic pain sufferer, he is the author of "Take Charge of Your Chronic Pain: The Latest Research, Cutting-Edge Tools, and Alternative Treatments for Feeling Better." Dr. Abaci also serves as an expert and weekly contributor for the Chronic Pain Community on WebMD. Peter was a lifelong soccer player, until he suffered his first anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear when he was in his late 20's. In his 30's he became less coordinate when playing sports and had put on weight. Then during a basketball game his right knee blew out, tearing just about everything possible in the same knee. After surgery the pain was intense, especially at night, but he went back to work, crutches and all. He started to notice forgetfullness and soon depression set in.
