  Ray Johnston, a walk-on at the University of Alabama, was a 24 year-old loan officer with Mavericks season tickets, when he was discovered by a scout at the 2004 Hoop-it-Up tournament in Dallas. Johnston's ensuing tryout won him a spot on the Mavericks' summer league team, making him teammates with the likes of Josh Howard and Devin Harris. All of that changed when a bump on the shin from a pickup game led to surgery - and a coma. All because of the Leukemia no one knew he had - a rare form of the disease known as Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. During this battle with this deadly disease, Johnston would be shocked back to life, twice. His lungs collapsed, five days apart, with an irregular heartbeat in between. His kidneys failed twice and blood clots in his brain led to seizures. But,after successfully beating Leukemia, not once but four times (Johnston is now in remission) he is pursuing a new dream. Traveling across Texas, the Southwest and the Southeast with "The Ray Johnston Band". Some of the band's performances will be fundraisers for "The Ryan Gibson Foundation or TRGF" ( http://www.trgf.org ) is a Dallas based non-profit organization that supports Leukemia Research throughout the U.S. Ryan Gibson, like Ray Johnston, had a passion for finding a cure for Leukemia. Now, through the talent of he and his band, Ray will be spreading the word about the importance of Leukemia Research as well as raising funds for TRGF.

  Dr. Maroon, MD, is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and a Professor and Heindl Scholar in Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He currently serves as medical advisor to Nordic Naturals.
  
  He has been the Team Neurosurgery for "The Pittsburgh Steelers" for the last 20 years. Honored as one of America's Best Doctors, Dr. Maroon has published over 250 scientific papers, 8 books and 40 book chapters.
  
  His most recent books are; "Fish Oil: The Natural Anti-Inflammatory", published by Basic Health Press in 2006. "The Longevity Factor: How Resveratrol and Red Wine Activate Genes for a Longer and Healthier Life", published by by Simon and Schuster in 2009.
  
  His research has focused on the prevention and treatment of injuries and diseases of the brain and spine. Most recently he has co-authured a paper entitled, "Evaluation of Lipid Profiles and the use of Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids in Professional Football" -- a landmark paper in this field.
  
  Also a devoted athlete, Dr. Maroon has completed over 60 Triathlons - 6 of these were Ironman distances (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run). His last was the Hawaiian Ironman in October of 2008.
  
  Because of his athletic accomplishments and contributions to sports medicine he was inducted into the "Lou Holtz Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame" along with "Joe Montana" and "Kareem Abdul-Jubaar."

  Cell phone users are at higher risk of developing brain cancer, a new meta-analysis study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology suggests.
  
  The analysis actually resulted in two conclusions depending upon which studies the researchers used in their analysis.

  Due to my internet company revamping the satellite (and not notifying anyone) I was unable to get online until 3pm CST (2 hours late), so we will be rescheduling this show for 9-30-09!! And we are hoping you all will be able to join us!!
