How To Get A Number 1 Google Listing Copyright 2009 by Willie Crawford

When it comes to search engine optimization, and getting traffic from search engine listings, higher rankings often deliver exponential results. That is, a number 1 listing at Google for your keyword phrase may deliver 100 times the traffic of a number 3 listing. To me, that makes it very worthwhile to focus on top listings.

At the same time, even a top 10 listing can deliver an amazing amount of free website traffic. So, aim for the top, but don't be disappointed if your only achieve top 10… especially for terms with millions of returns.

Here's how I get number 1 Google listings though:

1) Begin with proper keyword research. It does no good to rank for a term if no one is searching on it. It's also generally a waste of bandwidth if you attract the wrong visitors - people who are not buyers.

I generally use The Google External Keyword Tool for my research. I'm looking for what terms are Google AdWords users actually paying for. Theoretically, they wouldn't be paying for placement on those keywords if they weren't profitable.

I also look at my website statistics to see what keywords people actually used to find my site. That look will often reveal some hidden gems. Perhaps it's worthwhile to add pages to your site that focus on some of those keywords.

2) Don't overlook long-tail keywords. In very competitive niches you can often get number 1 positions on long-tail keywords, and by doing this for several of those long-tail keywords, get a surprising amount of traffic very easily.

3) Make sure that you use your most important keywords in your webpage titles. Also use them in your description metatags. I generally focus on no more than two keyword phrases per page.

4) Write short, focused articles around specific keywords and link back to your "money site." In the articles, focus on the problems that your product solves. You can also do the same thing with blog posts.

I distribute my articles to the top article directories using Easy Push Button Traffic. It’s a HUGE timesaver.

5) Post to top web 2.0 properties (those with high page rank) and link back to your primary site. Use your keywords in the hyper-links, but vary them some.

I do this automatically using a piece of software called Brute Force SEO. It does in 5 minutes what would literally take me days to do! Software also doesn’t mind boring, repetitive tasks.

6) Bookmark your pages, with the links again pointing to your money site, and using your keywords in the anchor text.

For this, again, I use Brute Force SEO.

7) Notify RSS aggregators of your new pages. This has an amazing effect. Again, I do that automatically using Brute Force SEO.

8) Write and distribute press releases to top press release sites. Search engines like to list the latest news, etc., and they learned long ago that the best place to find that was press release sites.

Your press release doesn't need to be fancy since we're writing it primarily for SEO purposes. Link back to your money site from the press release.

I distribute my press releases using Easy Push Button Traffic.

Those simple things above are how I achieve number one Google listings, and get a flood of highly-targeted traffic. It's simple and effective. I use automation to also make it fast and easy.

Give this simple system a try today, and enjoy your number 1 Google positions, and the resulting traffic.
