    The Truth About Website Traffic Generation

    Without traffic to your websites you have no customers.

    Without customers, you have no sales, and really aren't
    in business. 

    So the question becomes, "What really works in generating
    website traffic?"  Let's look closely at a few proven
    method.


    1) An email newsletter is a quick way to generate repeat
    traffic, but building a list takes time.  There is a
    popular saying in the Internet marketing community -
    "The money is in the list."  That's a true statement. With
    a responsive list, you can generate sales with the click
    of a button. 

    If you are not building a list right now, then you should
    start.  Offer an email newsletter or a free ebook or
    piece of software to get people onto your list. Then
    follow-up with them, delivering valuable information, and
    when you offer them products, they will buy.

    If you are relatively new to list-building, I recommend
    that you start out by contributing one of your ebooks to
    a free list-building giveaway.  You can find current ones

    2) Pay per click programs (such as Google AdWords) can
    generate immediate traffic, but if it doesn't convert, you
    can waste a lot of money. As soon as you set up your
    pay per click account, and set up a campaign, you can start
    to see traffic within minutes. The problem is that,
    depending upon your niche, each click could cost you several
    dollars. 

    You pay for each visitor, and there's no guarantee that any
    of them will buy anything!


    3) Joint ventures are a risk-free way to generate tons of
    quick, quality traffic, but it takes time and lots of  effort
    to build joint venture relationships.  Most online marketers
    that I know prefer dealing with friends, or people that they
    actually know, like, and trust. Building those relationships
    takes time and a concerted effort.

    That's not to say that you shouldn't use joint ventures to
    drive traffic to your offers,  you just need to start
    building those relationships today.  A good place to start is
    The Internet Marketing Inner Circle.

    The Internet Marketing Inner Circle is a community that I
    started back in 2006 as a place for people from numerous
    niches and experience levels to work together.  It's a place
    where members brainstorm, do joint ventures, coach/mentor
    each other, and even jointly create products.

    The truth about joint ventures is that unless you DO start
    networking, you'll be an outsider who'll often find it
    hard to get JV partners.

    4)  Creating content that discusses problems and shares
    solutions to those problems is one of the most reliable ways
    of generating quality free traffic.

    That content should include articles, videos, podcasts, and
    press releases since your audience members prefers consuming
    information in different modalities.

    Some prefer reading articles.  They often print out an article
    and make notes as they read it.

    Some prefer watching videos that show them rather than just
    telling them.  Many of your audience members have spent a LOT
    more time watching television than reading, and are
    conditioned to learn via watching.

    Some prefer listening. They may have hectic schedules and
    consume your information by downloading a podcast and then
    listening to it while out exercising, or on their long
    commute to that job that they hope to leave soon.

    Press releases are also an excellent way to get your concise
    message into the hands of the  right people.  The search
    engines as well as the media frequently comb press release
    sites making press releases an excellent tool for search
    engine optimization, and to get free media exposure.


    I actually teach that you should start with an article,
    turn that same content into a podcast, and create a
    video from the same content. With a little creativity, you
    can also do press releases related to the topic of your
    articles.

    Next you need to distribute your content. There are
    literally tens of thousands of places where you can
    distribute your content, but in each category, only a
    handful get significant traffic.

    Focus on submitting to the top 10-25 sites in each
    category (article, video, podcast and press release).

    You can submit manually, but in order to really get
    noticed in many niches you need to crank out a LOT of
    content. Manually submitting dozens of articles could
    become a full-time, incredibly tedious job. Instead, I
    recommend using an automated submission service that
    complies with the terms of service of the sites that it
    submits to.

    I personally do my submissions using Easy Push Button

    Many people coming online and deciding to sell affiliate products never sell a single product. The reason is glaringly obvious, and it's not the unfortunate affiliate marketer's fault.

    Think about any job that you've ever held in the offline world. What happened? You were hired and told when to report for work.

    When you showed up for work you were entered into training. Depending upon the job, you spent weeks, sometimes even months, with a trainer guiding you and looking over your shoulder.

    Compare that with your typical affiliate program that the complete newbie can join.

    You fill out an affiliate registration form and are handed an affiliate link. With some affiliate programs you are also directed to an affiliate resource center.

    With a few of the better affiliate programs, you are also directed to some affiliate training videos. The affiliate training videos are the exception rather than the rule.

    Affiliate marketers are basically left to figure out what works all on their own.

    It's really not much better for new people coming online who decide to launch their own product.

    They come online and read over and over again that you really need you own product. So they decide to create one, perhaps putting it on Clickbank, or a somewhat better option - decide to use the Rapid Action Profits script.

    These new product owners understand that they need affiliates, so they put a link to an affiliate signup page somewhere on their site. They often stick this affiliate program signup link in the worse possible place - right on their salespage where it distracts buying customers.

    As a side-note, a better place to put your affiliate signup invitation is on your download page, or you can tell your new customers about your affiliate program in a follow-up email. What better person to recruit as an affiliate than a satisfied customer who actually knows your product?

    These new product owners sign up affiliates, give them their affiliate links (and a few tools) and then wait for the orders to come flooding in.

    When the orders don't come surging in, the new product own wonders what he did wrong, and concludes that affiliate programs really don't work.

    The problem in both of the above cases is simply a lack of adequate training for affiliates in what works in promoting affiliate products.

    The sad part is that there is lots of information available on what has proven to work for top producing affiliates. I, as a super affiliate, have written over 1300 article on the topic of ecommerce. Many of those articles outline techniques that work flawlessly for me.

    For the product owner or affiliate program operator, there are entire affiliate training programs in a box. One that I looked at recently included 52 weekly autoresponder training sessions. It even included video lessons to SHOW the struggling affiliate how to do many things.

    Each of the weekly lessons in that "affiliate training program in a box" taught a skill that the aspiring affiliate marketer needs to understand.

    Seasoned marketers and copywriters understand that marketing is not guessing. It's testing until you discover what works, and then USING those things proven to work.

    Seasoned marketers and copywriters understand that they are often WRONG as far as what they think will work. Only the market decides what will work. That's why they don't experiment, but instead stick with the "tried and true."

    If you are a new (or unsuccessful) affiliate marketer, your solution is simple - learn and stick with what's already proven to work.

    If you are a product owner with an affiliate program that's NOT producing, your solution is simple - train your affiliates.

    When you train your affiliate, they will experience success selling your products, and having finally figured it out, will double their efforts in promoting your products.

    Like any other paying job in the world, affiliate marketing does require training. Make sure that you're not overlooking this critical element of the online marketing puzzle!

    Lately, I hear from a LOT of struggling internet marketers. Many of them are worried about paying next month's rent, or having their electricity turned off. In other words, I hear from a lot of internet marketers "with their backs against the wall."

    The sad part is that if they've studied internet marketing for a year or so, this is completely unnecessary. They already possess the knowledge to generate as much as $10,000 (or more) in a single weekend. They just haven't learned to properly value and market their know-how.

    How does a struggling internet marketer go from zero to $10,000 in a single weekend? You CHANGE who you are marketing to.

    Instead of trying to convince other internet marketers that they need some $20 ebook, you market to people with money already budgeted for expertise similar to yours.

    The customers that I propose you market your internet expertise to are local offline businesses. Many of the local businesses in your area are struggling, and need your expertise, and are willing to pay for it.

    What am I proposing?

    I'm suggesting that you put on a 1-day workshop where you TEACH local businesses to use the internet to drive more paying customers through their doors.

    You charge a token fee of $100 - $200 (or more) to these local businesses, so that they value what you are teaching, but that's not where you cash in.

    In your 1-day workshop, you teach these local businesses about things such as search engine optimization, long-tail keywords, and capturing the email addresses of their customers (and website visitors) so that they have an easy way to follow-up with them.

    You teach the local beauty parlor that, if they noticed Thursdays are always slow, an easy way to fix that problem is to send out an email on Wednesday to all of their customers, telling them that if they come in on Thursday, they get a 10% discount. Then you teach them how to capture their customers' contact data so that they can easily contact ALL of their customers for free.

    You explain the power of email to them as compared to say newspaper or radio advertising where there is considerably more preparation and lead time required. You teach them that email is practically instant AND free.

    You spend the day teaching these local businesses how to really harness the power of the internet. You don't need to hold anything back - you can teach them everything that you know.

    At the end of the 1-day seminar (you can make it 2 days if you prefer), you offer to do the things for them that you just taught them how to do. You'll be pleasantly surprised when 90% of them want you to do it for them (even though you just taught them how to do it).

    These local business people are too busy running the day to day operations of their businesses to learn a whole new set of skill, so they will pay YOU handsomely to do it for them.

    Here's the secret, you "outsource" that work. You charge the local businesses enough where you can pay someone else to do the work and still end up with thousands of dollars from the weekend.

    You funnel the work to talented people that you've met online or find through sites such as Elance.com

    It really is that simple and easy.

    When I first discovered Internet radio shows, and the fact that anyone can start their own radio show online, I wondered how valuable they really were.

    I wondered how useful it would be to become a guest on some of these shows. I wondered how big and how responsive the audiences were.

    I wondered how useful it would be for me to host my own show. How many people would actually tune in to the live shows, and how many would listen to recorded episodes in the archives.

    I am very please to announce that after over a year of being a guest on numerous Internet radio shows, and of hosting my own, I consider them VERY useful.

    Long ago, I took a course in getting free publicity by being a guest on talk radio shows. In that course, I learned the with some of the smaller radio stations you may NOT have a huge audience, but if you do things right you can still make lots of sales, and get lots of new subscribers.

    I've discovered that being a guest on an Internet radio show is really no different than being a guest on an offline radio show.

    It's actually MUCH easier to build your list by being a guest on Internet radio shows though. You merely need to asks the host's permission to give out a free gift, and you send the listeners to an autoresponder to collect the gift. With offline radio shows your listeners may be in their cars, or nowhere near a computer so it's harder to drive them to a website.

    Hosting my own radio show for over a year has also provided a terrific marketing tool, boosting my sales and name recognition! My show, hosted and archived at http://BlogTalkRadio.com/WillieCrawford/ has had hundreds of thousands of listeners (mostly tuning in to archived episodes). Many of them have become customers, often buying affiliate products promoted during the shows.
