In Gated Grief ,Leila Levinson, founder of the website veteranschildren.com, begins a crucial conversation between veterans and their families. Inspired by her father's shocking WWII photographs from Holocaust camps, Levinson examines the link between war veterans' trauma, and the way it affects members of their family when they return home. Using research she uncovered through an Ella Lyman Cabot Trust grant, interviews with veterans and their children, and her own experience as the daughter of a WWII Holocaust camp liberator, Levinson drives home a searing point: Few veterans know how to treat their PTSD. But with the help of this book and the support of a veteran's family, the emotional healing process can begin. With all Iraq War soldiers coming home by the end of 2011, Gated Grief is an urgent and timely read. Its aim is to build a bridge between veterans and their children – a bridge of stories. Join us as we talk about this timely and important subject.
