We're wrapping up Women's History month with another fearless female who pens fiction for those of us over 40 (and a few under 40). Gayle Trent is the Cozy Mystery Writer who combines rich mysteries with something we all love, cake! She lives in Southwest Virginia with her husband and two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. She describes herself as a full-time writer/editor/mom/wife and chief cook and bottle washer, and she loves every minute of it. Okay, not the bottle washing so much, but the rest of it is great. In her first novel Murder Takes the Cake the meanest gossip in Brea Ridge dies mysteriously and suspicions turn to cake decorator Daphne Martin. But all Daphne did was deliver a spice cake with cream cheese frosting–and find Yodel’s body. Now Daphne’s got to help solve the murder and clear her good name. Problem is, her Virginia hometown is brimming with people who had good reason to kill Yodel, and Daphne’s whole family is among them. In the second novel Dead Pan, heroine Daphne Martin finds herself telling a police office, "I just delivered the cake for the second time in as many months. Several people became sick at Brea Ridge Pharmaceuticals’ annual holiday party for its employees, and one–Fred Duncan–died. Fred’s mother insists on Daphne’s help in learning why Fred died; and since none of the food has yet been exonorated, Daphne feels compelled to find out what made everyone so ill. She’s pretty sure it wasn’t her cake, but she can’t be certain until the police complete the lab results. Was this an accident? Or did someone set out to kill Fred. Join us as we talk with this talented author and find out what inspires her to write.
