For many, Big Pete Pearson’s music is great entertainment, and he is a fantastic performer. But, for many of us, Big Pete Pearson is something more. I can remember as a child how the old folks would gather around after a hard day, how they would talk about the good times and hard times back home. Back home, being from some hard southern state where the blues was born. Yes, they would gather around a fifty gallon drum of fire to take the cold edge of winter off. They would talk and drink their favorite spirit White Port, Thunderbird and other long gone spirits that would ease their familiar pain. I didn’t understand then, but when I heard Big Pete Pearson play he brought back memories that were both happy and sad. Now, I understand how important blues was in the life of African Americans.
