Dr. James Thomas Jones III
James Thomas Jones III received his B.A. in African-American and African Studies (AAAS), M.A. degrees in AAAS and History, and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, teaches the United States history surveys as well as advanced courses covering his areas of expertise: African-American Studies, Modern U.S. History, Labor History, Women’s History, the Civil Rights Movement, Black Power Era, and Contemporary Black Popular Culture with a significant focus upon Hip-Hop culture. He is the chief architect behind the blog MRC --- Manhood, Race, and Culture
A specialist in contemporary African-American History, he has authored several articles upon topics as diverse as the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, post-Civil Rights America, Hip-Hop Culture, and the intersection of race, class, gender, and sports. Dr. Jones’ has several major projects he is currently working on: “Creating Revolution as They Advance: The Revolutionary Years of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense” “Obrouni: An African-American Sojourn Home?” “The Black CNN: Reflections upon Hip-Hop Culture and Politics in the Twenty-First Century”.
