The Poor People’s Campaign INC seeks to directly compel America to redress the policies that create and substantiate poverty, oppress the poor and deny people the right to live with dignity, respect, justice, equality and freedom.

The special history of the Hotline is bipartisan and deeply moving. In 1994, Senator Joseph R. Biden and Senator Orrin G. Hatch co-authored historic legislation, the Violence Against Women Act, and the U.S. Congress took an unprecedented step in response to our nation¢s tragically high prevalence of domestic violence by enacting the legislation and creating the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
Since then, the Hotline has become the Vital Link to Safety for over 1.5 million families, responding to more than 16,000 calls each month. As more and more national partners publish the Hotline number in English and Spanish, call volume continues to soar. In 2006 and 2007, with the launch of a new national awareness campaign, we will reach more people than ever before, and we must be ready to speak with each personally to help them take the next critical steps to safety.
As a 10th Anniversary Initiative, the Hotline has organized the DECADE FOR CHANGE Summit, which will bring together leaders from key sectors of society to outline a 10-year initiative to measurably reduce domestic violence by 2016. Join with us in becoming a part of the solution. The Called to Make a Difference Campaign calls on you, me and America to step up and seek an end to domestic violence. Domestic violence is preventable. Together we will make a difference.
