Please pray for the families of the slain Oakland Police Officers who were killed in the line of duty on Saturday March 21, 2009.

I've included some information to help the families:

Anyone who would like to make a contribution to trust funds set up for the families may do so by two methods — by wire transfer or by check.

Wire transfers may be made directly to the following Merrill Lynch accounts: the Dunakin Children's Family Trust, account No. 204-04065; the Romans Children's Family Trust, account No. 204-04066; and the Sakai Family Trust, account No. 204-04064. No fund had been set up as of Monday afternoon on behalf of Hege, who had no children.

Individual checks also may be made out to the

families and mailed to the Oakland Police Officer's Association, attn.: Rennee Hassna, 555 Fifth St., Oakland, CA 94607. Make checks payable to the Dunakin Children's Family Trust; the Romans Children's Family Trust; or the Sakai Family Trust.

A public memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Oracle Arena, 7000 Coliseum Way in Oakland. Organizers are asking attendees to arrive early. The Rev. Jayson Landeza, Police Department chaplain, will lead and conduct the service.

There will be a vigil at 6 p.m. tonight at the site of the shootings at 74th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. Mayor Ron Dellums and the Oakland City Council are asking everyone to come together to support the families of the officers who were shot as well as their fellow officers, who are grieving.

Please spend time thanking a US Service man or woman and bless our men and women in blue.

See you next week when my guest will be Tim O'Neill who wrote Every Play, Every Day, My Life As A Walk-On At Notre Dame.

Don't forget to call in, you never know who might be listening!

    Maureen
