Show Notes

What shall we say when history asks how such crimes came to be committed in the name of America? Will we say that we stood silently by, shrugging our shoulders, filling our bellies, closing our eyes? Or will we be able to say: We saw. We dissented. We resisted. We condemned. - Chris Floyd, American journalist and political watchdog

    ANOTHER ONE BITE'S THE DUST

    Breaking News: Gentrifcation Report Update
DC Mayor takes control of Anacostia

(BlackPressMagazine .com) - Adrian M. Fenty, Washington, DC's Black mayor who raised eyebrows for his decision to close Stevens Elementary school, the first school for Black freed slaves,  to make room for condo development - is making news again this week.

Minutes ago, Mayor Fenty held a press conference to announce that the Department of Housing and Community Development will leave its headquarters in the Union Station area of DC to relocate in September to Anacostia Gateway, a 63,000 square foot building at 1800 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE.

Neighbors and opponents of the developments are angered by the commercial development of Anacostia, which houses the city's African American population. Many residents are being forced out of the neighborhood that they occupied since Black abolitionist Fredrick Douglass purchased his home there years ago.

During his press conference, Fenty unveiled the District’s Center City Action Agenda 08, an economic development initiative that aims to spur new investment in emerging neighborhoods that surround the city’s traditional downtown. Many residents feel the mayor is leading an effort to gentrify the neighborhood and move Black residents out of the city. The gentrification projects began with the building of Nationals Park, where a noose was found last month. The park is expected to open on March 29 and will be the permanent home of MLB's Washington Nationals.

‘This agenda provides a compelling vision and a strategic implementation plan for growing the District’s economic base and providing employment opportunities, better services and ultimately an improved quality of life for the residents of nation’s capital,” Mayor Fenty said.

This was found in his diary , Dear God, I promise I will never waste my food no matter how bad it can taste and how full I may be. I pray that He will protect this little boy, guide and deliver him away from his misery. I pray that we will be more sensitive towards the world around us and not be blinded by our own selfish nature and interests. I hope this picture will always serve as a reminder to us that how fortunate we are and that we must never ever take things for granted.
