Mental Health; Many times we see those around us and wonder, 'What in the world is their problem'? Have you ever given thought about what type of trauma they might have suffered that left them wounded?
Trauma can cause a wide variety of health issues, not just physical but more emotional. It's like being shot but not being able to see the wound or the hole blasted through our chest. It is a nightmare that is exploding in our head, but when we talk about it people often turn away. Would you also turn away from that bullet wound?
Tonight we are talking about how we can help ourselves through the darkness, but also how we can help others begin to really understand us. Our Mental Health is crucial in coping with day to day simplicity of life. We can learn how to work forward and change some of our habits to build a better future. We can also teach others about the scars of our past and how they effect us today. When we all learn to feel empathy for the trauma and its wounds, the judgment and blame will begin to fade.
It is time for society to understand us rather than tagging a diagnosis without looking at the root of the problem. It is time for us to understand how the blame we place on the victim deepens the wound of the trauma. Would you blame a war verteran for their PTSD? Would you blame a tornado victim for their tears? Why do we place the burden of blame and shame on victims of abuse/rape/violence?
