Call in to speak with the host
Join us for VOW Talk Radio on Tuesday, July 24, at 7:00 pm EDT as we discuss the topic of post traumatic stress and share a great resource that is available to combat veterans.
Steven Diaz, USMC Retired, the Director of Strategic Partnerships for Hidden Wounds will be joining us to tell us about the organization and how it is helping our combat veterans and their families.
Hidden Wounds was formed in response to a tragedy involving its founder, Anna Bigham. Anna’s brother, LCpl Mills Palmer Bigham, served four years of active for the United States Marine Corps. Lcpl Bigham served two tours of duty in Iraq. He was released in October 2008, with an honorable discharge and new rank, Combat Veteran. Immediately, Anna recognized her brother was not the same young man she once knew. LCpl Bigham sought treatment and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), however he was not given the treatment he deserved. Though Anna supported her brother, battled for the right of his treatment, and cared for him during the long and horrific nights. It was too little, and too late. Mills took his own life waiting for those services on October 19, 2009.
Shortly thereafter, Anna decided that she could not let her brother’s death be the way out for any more of our heroes. It is her dedication and passion to prevent her tragic story from happening to others that has brought us here today.
The mission of Hidden Wounds is to provide interim and emergency counseling services to ensure the psychological health and well-being to combat veterans and their families.
It's good to talk.
