If you are a leader, at some point in your management career, you will have to face times when business conditions turn against you. This may be as a result of technology changes, a recession or company specific issues such as a powerful competitor entering the market. When this happens, you will need to know how to guide your company through the tough times and profit from the changes that are happening.

Leadership during a turnaround is very different from "business as usual" leadership.

If you are not comfortable with this "best practices" leadership style, then you must step aside for someone who is.

This leadership style works but can lead to confusion and resentment.

"Turnarounds are akin to war. The results of failure, if not bankruptcy and death, are grievous wounds. During the periods of greatest risk, the military organization model is the most effective."  ~ Prof. John O. Whitney (PhD from Harvard and Prof at Columbia Business School; died on Dec 09, 2013)
