Toni Bernhard got sick in 2001 and has yet to recover. She was a law professor for 22 years but, due to the illness, now had to retire. Faced with learning to live a new life she began to write a manual for herself, both guide her through the tough times and to remind herself of joy. This soon turned into the award-winning book, How to Be Sick: A Buddhist-Inspired Guide for the Chronically Ill and Their Caregivers. This has changed people's lives as they've learned to live a life of joy despite their health challenges. Her new book is How to Wake Up: A Buddhist-Inspired Guide to Navigating Joy and Sorrow.
