Ms. Marilyn Vann, President of the Descendants of Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes http://www.freedmen5tribes.com/ stops by Reckless 2.0 to discuss the system of white supremacy. We will discuss the complex relationship between black people and the non-white people commonly known as Native Americans in this area of the world in light of the recent Cherokee Supreme Court Decision to expel people of African descent (Freedmen) from the Tribe. We will investigate the history of black people among the Cherokee tribe (including slavery), and why the so-called "civilized Native American Tribes", especially the Cherokee, always seem to be more at odds with black people than other Native Americans in this area of the world. We will be sure to get Ms. Vann to discuss the rationale for the expulsion of the Freedmen from the Cherokee tribe, as well as the large numbers of people who function as white who belong to the Cherokee Tribe, and why there isn't a huge movement to expel these people (who are probably white supremacists). We will also ask if miscegenation could be a cause of anti-blackness among this particular Native American Tribe, and the role of Racist/White Supremacists, past and present, in "red"/"black" relations in this area of the world. We will also highlight ways that different groups of non-white people can settle their differences, and highlight that not ALL Cherokees are in favor of the controversial decision. Should be a Reckless night.
