On Wednesday 07/30/08 @ 9:00 PM EST, we will be talking with clothing designer art and eco activist Amelia Berumen about her new clothing line called “ Global Warning”.
As her Art is a personal favorite and a wonderful inspiration to women around the globe,
this will be Amelia’s second appearance on the show talking about Itzpapalotl!
Itzpapalotl means in english, obsidian butterfly. This name describes the men and women who dress in their traditional clothing in all of Latin America. Obsidian is the color of their skin, so when they wear their dresses and tops full of beautiful embroidery they look like butterflies.
Global Warning is a collaboration between Designer of Itzpapalotl, Amelia Berumen and Body Piercer and Printmaker from Guanjuato Leon, Mexico, Hugo Hernandez. The clothing that came out of this collaboration is inspired by Global indigenous culture and tradition. The prints range from a Mursi tribeswoman from Ethiopia to the head of the Olmecas from Mexico. The design of the dress or top is inspired by the fabrics of Africa, Borneo, and Central America. The found fabrics have an all around print of Maize or corn, which is lively hood of many indigenous peoples around the globe. The name Global Warning was the idea of printmaker, Hugo. He felt that the” line should be an awareness; A conscious clothing line that can expose many to images that they are not used to looking at”. We created this line for the love of just creating and found that our ideas were coming together very naturally and the whole clothing line just flowed with what I was doing and what Hugo wanted to create with his prints.
This conscious collaboration will surely change the evolution of the designing genre
Please join in on this wonderful conversation this Wednesday night @ 9:00 PM EST
