Role of Community in Womens Empowerment

On 06/11/08 @ 8:30 EST We will be talking with Community Leader Genny Clark "Native Warrior Women" on the role of community in womens empowerment and the role of the Deer Dancer in the Yaqui Nation.

    Bio by Genny:

I AM A MEMBER OF THE YAQUI NATION From TUCSON ARIZONA
My american Name is Genevieve Clark,  My Native Name is Tender Heart.   I am a Seaker on behalf of Native American Women.

I am 41 years old. A Single Mother of two Boys, now Great Men and living their Journey.
My Mother, is Mary Clark and My Father's name is Elmer Clark
I am the 2nd daughter of Three Sister.  (the middle child)

I have had the oppertunity to work and live with women, on and off the Reservations and I am grateful for the experiences.

I want to challenge Women/anyone who will listen out there, to master your common thought.

We all wear a social mask because it's too painful to see ourselves or to let others see us as we really are. We pretend that everyone believes what we want them to believe about us. We put up barriers of protection, to keep people away. Those barriers also keep us inside, restricting our freedom.

MY MISSION IN LIFE IS TO TEACH MY NATIVE SISTERS A NEW WAY OF THINKING. NOT TO BE VICTIMS OR SURVIVORS, TO JUST BE! TO BE PROUD, CONFIDENT NATIVE WARRIOR WOMEN.
    Thank you,
    Genevieve Clark

The role of the Deer Dancer:

The deer dancer is prominent in the Pascua Yaqui logo and Tribal symbol. The successful merger of ancient Yaqui traditions with Catholicism allows the deer dancer to remain a central feature of the spiritual lives of today's Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona. Pascua is Spanish for Easter, and it is during the Easter season that the deer dancer is most prominent, participating in ceremonies that depict events of this holy period. Flowers are important to the Yaqui's daily lives and ceremonies. They combine the ancient beliefs that the deer dancer is from a flower-filled spiritual world of natural beauty with the belief that Christ's grace is symbolized by flowers that grew from blood that fell from Jesus' wounds during the crucifixion. Flowers are believed to be powerful weapons against evil and are a prevailing symbol seen in elaborately embroidered floral designs on traditional Yaqui clothing.Credits: Pascua Yaqui Tribe but they successfully molded the two into a unique belief system that includes their beloved deer dancer
