The show started oddly, as my kids were dropped off at my house by the grandparents two minutes before the show started...so I broke out a segment from the NPR show "Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me." My mom thought my show was over, and she graciously took my kids to Disney on Ice, so she gets a pass. Once the show got back underway, we had a solid effort. I had several guests from the Dameshek.com message board, including Major Minority, Face Ventura, and The Whale. We discussed apologizing as an epidemic which naturally led to a good conversation about Tiger Woods. After discussing how we needed to "Leave Tiger Woods alone" complete with my wonderful singing pipes being broadcast for all to hear, we did a Contender-Pretender segment on NFL teams. We finished off by taking a page from the LCS Hockey Show and talking a little bit of hockey. Actually, it was almost exclusively Florida Panthers hockey, which is not exactly a scintillating topic, but it was a fun conversation and it allowed me to plug the Dan Lebotard show. The BlogTalk switchboard gave out on me and didn't allow me to play any more clips, so the Vertically Striped Music recommendation will have to wait until next week.

We had some fun crazy people in the news, including a drunk guy ramming a hot dog stand and a woman who saw Jesus in her Iron. Aaron Young of the No Name Show dropped in to tell us about a man who lived as a zoo exhibit in the World's Fair around 100 years ago, and Face Ventura helped me co-pilot the show as we did a fantastic version of the Magnificent 7 - Top Seven Football Coach Freakouts at Press Conferences. Face also tried to defend the honor of Thanksgiving turkey, as my family celebrated the holiday with BBBQ Brisket, and I've got to say I haven't had any complaints about the decision here locally. The Vertically Striped Music Recommendation was "Rock Spectacle" a live album from the Barenaked Ladies, and another one of my all time faves from the mid-nineties.

Fun show, we talked a ton about the Redskins for some reason, and then discussed how Ireland got screwed by the refs against France which turned into a philosophical discussion about questioning authority. Weird first half hour, to be sure. Then Face Ventura, Steve from Alabama, and The Whale and I broke down the four outlandish movie pitches that were submitted on the Dameshek.com message board. We had some great ideas, and I think movie executives would be foolish to avoid our ideas. Finally, I reviewed the movie, "The Men Who Stare at Goats" which I gave a 7 out of 10. I shared a bit about meeting the sports guy and having him sign my copy of his book. Finally, the Vertically Striped Music Recommendation was the self titled album by Jars of Clay from 1995, one of my favorite albums of all time.

Trace Smith of the Southeast Sports Beat dropped by Vertically Striped Radio to drop some knowledge about the North Carolina sports scene and to give a little advice about how I should have the Sports Guy sign my Book of Basketball this week at his Denver book signing. He was a delight and even hung around to be a contestant in the first ever edition of "Best of 13" against Face Ventura. The topic for "Best of 13" was "D-League team or Minor league hockey team?" Face hung in nobly, but Trace had too much knowledge of the NBA D-League to be denied. Jerry Fairish called in to formally announce that he is not Security Guy Irv, although Major Minority produced some compelling audio evidence. I believe Jerry, as though Jerry does seem like a nice guy, I'm not sure he's as "nice" as he'd have to be to truly play SGI. In true conspiracy segment style, we'll leave it up to you to decide. The Vertically Striped Music Recommendation this week was "Cease to Begin" by Band of Horses.

Halloween found Craig in a frazzled mood as his dogs and children were restless, never the less, he pressed on and spoke with The Ed, Face Ventura and The Whale...all of whom will not put ketchup on their dogs, so that's a plus. We discussed adults wearing costumes, the appropriate things to put on your hot dogs, Ed's lack of discipline in gambling, the World Series, is the confluence of women and sports a good thing, and even a tiny bit of hockey. Plus we were able to hear how well developed Craig's two year old's lungs are, Luke was happy to yell for us. Happy Halloween to all, and thanks for listening! The Vertically Striped Music Recommendation was "Whatever and Ever Amen" by Ben Folds Five.

Quite a show on today's program. Face Ventura showed up early and was quickly joined by The Ed who was checking in from Vegas with MJ Martin who was in town for Super Deluxe Baby Fights 1. Then we were joined a bit later on by Jerry Fairish and The Whale. We did talk a bit about baseball, the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys, but our biggest, longest and most interesting conversation had to do with breakfast cereals. We are all big fans of Boo Berry. It was a fun show, although I forgot to thank The Ed for showing up at the end of it, so Thanks The Ed! The Vertically Striped Music Recommendation was "Has Been" by William Shatner. Yes, William Shatner.
