    Youth of the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia explore the first of seven Unitarian Universalist principles: the inherent worth and dignity of every person. Today's program is titled "Behind the Burqah," designed to preserve the inherent worth and dignity of every Muslim woman. Our guest, Mara Ibrahim is a student at the University of Pennsylvania, pursuing a double major in International Relations and Communications. Marwa was born in Saudi Arabia but spent most of her life in Cairo, Egypt. On Oct 5th the Associated Press reported the following: "CAIRO -- Egypt's top Islamic cleric is planning to ban students wearing the face veil from entering the schools of al-Azhar, Sunni Islam's premier institute of learning, according to an independent daily Monday."

    Town Hall Meeting about Health Care Reform with Congressman Chaka Fattah

    The First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia and the Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion co-host a Town Hall meeting about Health Care Reform with special guest Congressman Chaka Fattah. This event, held on Friday, September 11, 2009 was organized by Luana Goodwin and Christiane Geisler of the First Unitarian Church. During this 50-minute recording Congressman Chaka Fattah will respond to questions from area health-care professionals. Enjoy the show.

    Democractic Process

    Liam Brock, a youth from the First Unitarian Church, interviews his father Bill Brock about the fifth Unitarian Universalist principle: "the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregation and in society at large." Bill has been advising the youth in our Religious Education program and is a member of the Fifth Ward Executive Committee of the Democratic Party in Philadelphia. In this role, he monitors polling machines and sends letters to their constituents about the Ward’s endorsements.
