    Autonomous Systems Panel, 1:30 PM; and Dr. Joel Primack and Dr. Nancy Ellen Abrams, 2:15-3 PM

    Join experts from across the United States as they discuss the latest research into autonomous systems. Dr. Bill Swartout, Director of Technology, University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies and Research Professor of Computer Science, USC, will discuss his research, including the Rehearsal Exercise project, which created an immersive virtual reality environment in which trainees interact with computer generated virtual humans. Dr. Joel Primack and Dr. Nancy Abrams authored The View from the Center of the Universe: Discovering Our Extraordinary Place in the Cosmos, as well as several articles on science policy, space policy, and the possible cultural implications of modern cosmology.

    3:30-4:00 PM Dr. Justine Cassell, director, Center for Technology & Social Behavior, and Professor, Department of Communicatiosn Studies and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, northwestern University, will discuss immersive technology. Cassell is credited with developing the Embodied Conversational Agent (ECA), a virtual human capable of interacting with humans using both language and nonverbal behavior. Cassell has also employed linguistic and psychological analyses to look at the effects of online conversation among a particularly diverse group of young people on their self-esteem, self-efficacy, and sense of community.

As head of TRADOC, Gen. Wallace has a direct role in the training of today's Soldiers in a battlefield increasingly influenced by science and technology. Gen. Wallace will discuss today's training environment and the role of science and technology.
