Juanita & Jon Blackhawk are rerolled in the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, White Earth Reservation.Join us as Juanita Blackhawk tells her husbands story. "Jon Blackhawk was originally charged with Constructive Possession of a Firearm (guns were found in his house on the property he owns in Pine Point, MN) in 1998. He was not living in the house and the guns did not belong to him. He was sentenced to 9 yrs in Federal Prison. While in Leavenworth Prison he was assaulted and left for dead. His jaw was broken in 3 places and according to the prison, he was in a coma for 2 weeks. Because of the assault, his short-term memory is gone, his equilibrium is messed up (he has to hold onto something when he walks because he feels like he is falling) and his jaw healed incorrectly. He was in the Medical Facility for awhile, then sent back to Leavenworth where he was place in Solitary Confinement for his own protection. Later he was transferred to Colorado. His sentence ended Sept. 6, 2006, when he was walking out the door, they indicted him with charges of assualting a guard. They threatened him with 20 more years, he kept saying he didn't do this and asked them to review the video tapes. The prosecutor said, "We will give you 3 years if you will plead guilty." My husband said he wouldn't plead guilty to something he didn't do. My husband has been a Christian for quite a few years, and made the comment that he talks to God every day and that God speaks to him, that's why they said he was incompetent to stand trial, said he was delusional, that he was hallucinating and was a threat to himself and others. As it turns out they dropped all the charges but they are making Jon stay in a Federal Halfway House in Fargo, N.D. (he was sent there 4/18/12) for a year so he can stay on a medication regiment. They will give no reason why he has to stay.
