UCEA's Michelle Young speaks with David Monk, the dean of the College of Education at the Pennsylvania State University about the importance of finding common ground in planning for and implementing substantive changes in Higher Education. Dean Monk will discuss an effort made within the Penn State College of Education to strengthen the instructional leadership strand of the college's leadership preparation program. The effort involved having faculty from leadership and from curriculum and instruction work together to develop and deliver curriculum. This interview will describe this effort and highlight the importance of developing common understandings of program goals and intent as well as the unique and important contributions that different areas of expertise can make to the development of educational professionals. According to Dean Monk, these practices can be just as important or more important than the structural changes and resource allocations made to support such efforts.
