    GATES MEETING WITH  POLICE AT WHITE HOUSE;

    BARACK OBAMA WILL ADDRESS RACE IN AMERICA

    WITHOUT “MAIN TOOL” TO GET THE JOB DONE

    -news commentary-H. Khalif Khalifah

    JULY 30, 2009

    SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA – Mark the date, it will go down in history as the time when U. S. President Barack Obama began to address the issue of Black oppression in The United States of America. The occasion is a meeting in his home of the two protagonist who precipitated the most passionate discussion about race in America since Dr. Kamau Kambon, on C-SPAN, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Million Man March offered up a “Final Solution.”

                Dr Kambon, a former professor at the North Carolina State University said: “We must find a Final Solution to stop the ethnic cleansing of Black People.”

    His statement was so controversy that it was the single most memorable from the 10th anniversary of The Million Man March. The Million Man March is largest event in history to dramatize the oppressive status of Black people: The Million Man March on October 16, 1995. Ten year celebration was October 16, 2005. Dr. Kambon made his statement, not during ‘the march’ but on the eve of the march.

    His solution is so dynamic we shall not repeat it here, as we are not using his solution, but the ensuring discussion about “the statement heard around the world.”

    BARACK OBAMA WILL ADDRESS THE ISSUE IN HIS OWN WAY

                There is no doubt Obama will attempt to address the issue of race in America, in the grand style that we all know so well. He has taken time from a busy schedule to meet with Henry Louis Gates and the Cambridge police officer who arrested him. President Obama got into the incident when he made a remark about the arrest of his friend, “Skip Gates,” and police “who acted stupidly by arresting a man in his own home.” Now things will never be the same for Obama’s presidency.

    There has been an absolute uproar in America. Heretofore, the race question in America is like the “third rail” on a rail road track: you cannot touch it without getting burned to some degree. But this U. S. President, Barack Obama, will attempt turn his first encounter with the race question into a an opportunity to address the larger question.

     Fortunately Obama already knows that approximately half of the U. S. population will not like him, no matter what he does or does not do. But he has already shown an ability to gain the respect, if not the love, of his most severe critics. He will try once again. But this time will be different in too many ways to even begin to enumerate: so we will address the one that is like a cancer that appears to have no cure, other than to remove it from the body completely.

    SLAVERY INCORPORATED IN THE U.S. CONSTITUTION

    The oppression of Black people was incorporated into the U. S. Constitution at the beginning of the “Experimental Republic.” The U.S. was, and still is an experiment: never in history has a government been established on a doctrine of White Supremacy. Merciless brutality and injustice was used to oppress Black people during the early years of the Experiment. Today the brutality & injustice is coupled with enough flexibility to incorporate Black men, women and children who openly accept the status quo, to be individually successful. They call the individual achievements progress.

                Maybe in an experiment, making progress is the most important thing. But learned folk, understand that just making of progress does not equal a Just Society. A Just Society, in this instance, means having done the things that remove the entire cancer of chattel slavery, second-class citizenship and other kinds of oppression.

                Like everyone else, I am very interested to see how Barack Obama applies his remedy to the clash between Dr. Gates and Officer Crowley. No doubt it will work in this particular instance. However Barack Obama will also attempt to use this incident to address the larger question of race in America. And he will also make some “progress.”

                Unfortunately, up to now, there is nothing in the record of Barack Obama to indicate an ability, or willingness to remove the cancer in America. He is on record of opposing Reparations, which is the fundamental tool needed to ‘begin the healing process.”

                Also, there is no doubt that the Obama solution will translate into the age old strategy of doing things to “make progress” in America, rather than remove the ‘cancer.’

    Since progress is not freedom, justice nor equality. The race question will not only NOT go away, but will return again and again. Those of us who advocate for and demand Reparations can assure this fact.
