PSYCHIC GYPSY'S BIO AND CONTACT INFO: FOLLOW-UP TO 09/07/2008 SHOW

You may call me Gypsy. I was born in the Bronx of New York City to a Russian Mother and a Cuban Gypsy Father. My Father was a gifted musician and a contemporary of Cuban Band Leader Desi Arnez. My Mother was a typical Russian Mother loving and caring for her family and their home.

I discovered my abilities at an early age and would do "Reading's" for my classmates. As I got older my powers became stronger and more refined and I discovered that they took several forms.

    AFTERMATH’S AND A**HOLE’S: FOLLOW-UP TO 09/01/08 LABOR DAY SHOW

EVERY PARTY HAS IT'S AFTERMATH AND IT'S A**HOLES!

Every Labor Day weekend since 2001 you are always able to find me at the Annual National ABATE (A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education) Labor Day Rally on Paradise Point at Lake Perry, Kansas. This year was no different as once again I worked my Body Art Magic from my mobile studio the Skin Art Creations Tattoo Depot.

Sunset over Paradise Point, Lake Perry, Kansas

This is the 33rd year for this rally and it just keeps getting bigger and better every year. It is a far cry from the mud pit beer bust it was in 1975. I was at that party and it was the true example of falling down muddy drunk. At this years rally I was assisted by my lovely blonde home girl from Topeka, Kansas Dee Poe. Her name seemed appropriate as it was a play on the name of my mobile unit, i.e.; Dee Poe worked the Depot.

The GYPSY and His Home Girl Dee Poe

The party went as it always does, complete and utter chaos but controlled by the experienced ABATE security crew. And as always I was slammed with more work than I would ever be able to get to in the three day weekend. While I did my thing inside the Depot Dee Poe did her thing outside keeping all organized and running smoothly. This may have been her first time working as a front person for a Master Tattoo Artist but she handled it like a seasoned pro.

Beaded Ladies enjoy the party.

The way we keep things organized and flowing is really simple: You put your name on a list. When I finish a tattoo we call the next name on the list. If you are there you get tattooed. If you are not there we go to the next name. We always start at the top of the list on each turn so that if you missed your spot the first time you have another chance to get in. I have always handled the list like this and it has always worked smoothly and to the benefit of all. Most people understand how it works and they are willing to wait their turn patiently to get into see me. Every once in a while though we end up with an a**hole and as it turned out on Saturday afternoon we found one.

Who says bike show vendors don't work hard?

We shall call this a**hole C.D. for lack of a better name. You can use your imagination and make the initials stand for whatever you wish them to stand for. C.D. had put his name on the list and Dee Poe had explained what our policy was. C.D. had got a tattoo from me before, a Kanji symbol on his forearm. He had either knocked the scab off or picked it off and the color had been pulled from the tattoo. C.D. had asked me about it earlier in the day and I had quoted him $60.00 to fix it. This had aggravated him as he felt I should fix it for free. I explained that even if it had been our fault that it was past the one year guarantee deadline (he got the tattoo two years ago), and therefore it would cost the minimum to fix the tattoo. Sometimes, when someone is getting more work from me, I will fix flaws in a previous tattoo I may have done on them while I have the pigments and needles out for no charge. Since the tattoo was a small one I had decided I would touch it up free of charge when I did his new tattoo. But before that could happen he blew ever getting a tattoo from me again.

While C.D. waited for his turn in line he drank one beer after another. Dee Poe warned him several times to slow down or I would not work on him. I will not tattoo on drunks for any reason. Being that it is a party I leave a little leeway for drinking but if you are drunk you will not get in to see me. C.D. was already well on his way to not getting tattooed by me already because he would not slow down on the drinking. As his turn approached Dee Poe warned him to stay close by but C.D. had other plans. He informed Dee Poe that he was going over to the beer tent to dance. She said, "Gypsy is almost finished with the tattoo he is working on and if you are not here he will take the next person in line." C.D. said, "I'll be over there." Indicating the beer tent.

The infamous Beer Tent. Center of all social activity at the Rally.

Now I need to make this clear before I proceed any further with this narrative; My front persons job is to keep things organized and my job is to tattoo and pierce. We are not baby sitters and it is not our job to run you down when it is your turn. So it was that when C.D.'s turn came up he was no where to be found so we took the next person in line who was waiting there and had not ran off to go dancing.

As I started work on my client I heard all hell break lose outside. C.D. had returned and Dee Poe had told him he had missed his turn and if he did not want to miss it again he should stay nearby. That is when he started cussing Dee Poe out. Now Dee Poe is about 5 foot tall and weighs maybe 98 pounds soaking wet while C.D. is well over 6 foot and 200 pounds. You can clearly see how intimidating a little blonde Catholic girl could be to a big burley man and how that big burley man would need to verbally assault and threaten such a formidable opponent. I came out the door of the mobile unit with fire in my eyes. As he saw me emerge he started moving away through the crowd, "You need to get the f**k out of here, move it on." I said as I indicated which direction he should keep moving in. "I'll see you back in Independence." Was all he said as he moved off. I picked up his release form and scanned the address line. When I saw his address I could not help but laugh. He lives out by the Country Club right here in my town. Now how about that! What is he going to do hit golf balls at me? C.D. turned out to be nothing more than a weekend warrior and a loud mouth drunk which people I have talked to in the community since the incident have confirmed. Brave man against a little girl. I will be sending him a formal letter letting him know that I do not appreciate how he treated my front person. I will also advise him that all future service from my studio is denied to him. Sometimes I miss the good old days when a message of that sort could be delivered with a fist and not a stamp.

The Beer Tent at 3:00am

Dee Poe and I had started work at 9:30am Saturday Morning and we finished for the day at 3:00am Sunday morning. We closed down and covered books and merchandise and made ready to hit our perspective beds and call it a night. I glanced over at the beer tent which was now empty of all living things. It now held an Army of defeated beer cans. The dead soldiers stood guard over the overflowing trash cans and sticky picnic tables. Soon the Undertakers would come and cart off the lifeless aluminum for a proper burial at the local recycling plant.

Dead Soldiers

ABATE of Kansas sponsors the National ABATE Labor Day Rally and they definitely throw one hell of a party. I work hard every year at the event and I will forever return to the event as long as my hand can hold the machine and as long as they want me. It is always worth the effort I put into it and it is always a great weekend for all involved. Oh you may have the occasional tumble from the scooter when you gun the throttle on wet grass or your camper may burn down from a short in the generator (both happened this year), but you can bet the memories will be many and good when you go home.

The Burial Ground R.I.P.

As Sunday night engulfed the party Dee Poe and I packed down the mobile unit to get it ready for Monday mornings return trip home. I had done 25 tattoos and 13 piercings over the 3 day period and I was tired and ready to unwind. Dee Poe and I stood in front of the unit talking and watching a tall naked cowboy smoking a cigar by the beer tent and drinking a Bud Light. Around his neck hung a bead chain of large blue Mardi Gras beads. I nudged Dee Poe and pointed in his direction, "Looks like he wants to show everyone his blue balls." I quipped. Dee Poe laughed as I pointed at his crotch, "Oh My God!", I exclaimed, "If that was all I had hanging between my legs I would be covering it with my hat. That's just embarrassing for him." This brought another peel of laughter from Dee Poe.
