Many may pray for a blessing from God and some will expect prompt delivery of that prayer, when it does not come as fast as we would like to see it, we then lose faith and become dishearten.  As this expectation of when the blessing should be delivered and it does not happen a few more times, now we become cynics and disbelievers, attempting to make others discard their belief and take up our cross.  Some blame the disconnection upon the death of a loved one or seeing something we view as a bad thing happening to someone we view as a good person.  While all of these may be adequate reasoning for your current stance, frankly the answer as to why has been a part of the Bible as long as the Bible has been around but because it is much easier to blame and shame than to learn and burn, many of us choose to plainly ignore it.
