Tuned In

Tuned In, Ideas Worth Listening To for your work, your money and your life/

  • Archived Blog Post

    Date / Time:

    Win The Race

A great way to get Tuned In each day is to read something new. May I recommend Roy Williams, Monday Morning Memo. It is delivered each Monday morning and always features something that will make you think about your work, your money or your life. Monday Morning Memo

This week Roy discussed a new book called, “The Age of Speed” by Olympic speed skier Vince Poscente. I particularly liked the part where Vince challenges the fable of the Tortoise and the Hare. He says, “The hare doesn’t lose because he’s fast – speed does not work against him in any way. And the tortoise doesn’t win because he is slow. The hare loses because he makes a ridiculous choice about how to spend his time.”

Time. Focus. Purpose. Clarity. Commitment. These are the things Vince Poscente talks about.

I believe there no losers, no predefined paths and no requirements to get what you want in life. You have to get Tuned In to your purpose with great clarity. Then make a commitment and focus on your greatness, even when others don't. When you use your time each day to stay Tuned In to these areas, little by little, you will make it there. But, if you put your focus elsewhere and start to let others define you instead of believing in the great gifts that only you can define for the world...you may end up feeling like the hare.

You are meant to win the race...how you run it is simply up to you. If something you are doing today is not working, change it immediately and don't waste time in waiting for a choice to find you. It you wait too long, it may be too late. Focus on your ultimate purpose and keep running toward it. The path will change daily, but the obstacles are just part of the journey. No successful person has ever run the race without experiencing conflict, a detour or stopping for a minute to re-evaluate. They stay flexible and understand that the strategy going into a race will change many times before they cross the finish line.

Are you clear on your purpose? Get Tuned In to what you were born to do today by taking a few minutes to sit alone. Clear your head and ask yourself the question, "What is my true purpose in life?" The answer is there. It may not come to you immediately, but keep asking until you get that "A-Ha!" moment. Then follow it with all your power and I promise that things will start to happen. Why? Because you won't be focused on the speed, but the right choices each day to get you there. You will win the race.
